I'm going to beat a dead horse

by asking, should I call?

Timeline:
Applied for job - August, 2006

Interview #1 - October, 2006

Interview #2 - January, 4, 2007

They called my references after interview #2

I called January 25th for an update - was told they would have more information for my by February 1st.

It's February 9th and still no word - no call, no rejection letter. This is a federal position, so I know these things tend to drag. Is it overkill if I call again to inquire about the status of the job?

Yes I would call. You've been in limbo long enough. Hopefully you'll get good news & when hired speed up the process for the rest of the applicantsChat Icon

Call!!!

Didn't she say last time that she was glad you called?

It's been over 2 weeks since you last touched base - it's definitely not overkill!

Call. It's been a week since you were supposed to be contacted. I don't see how it could hurt. Good luck! Chat Icon

Phooey. Just called and no one picked up. Maybe the office has disintegrated and that's why I haven't heard anything? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Call them and let them know (nicely) how surprised and disappointed you are with the recruitment process and its time scales. Tell them that you feel that you invested a lot of time and energy into coming to see them and you have heard nothing. Its bad practice. Very very bad practive.

I agree - it's bad practice (a) because it's rude and disrespectful of my time and energy, and (b) because anyone, even the person who is ultimately accepted, will lose momentum and interest with this kind of delay.

I called and left a message asking her to call me back. Let's see what happens.

Re: I'm going to beat a dead horse

It's a federal position!!! I didn't know that before. I think that explains it all. Those things take RIDICULOUS amounts of time (as you can clearly see).

My girfriend has a city job (different, obviously, but the point is the same) and waited 4 months after she was told she got the job just to find out when she was to start! It stinks!! Chat Icon

I've heard every department except the Patent and Trademark Office has a hiring freeze right now. They may be taking a while b/c they can't officially hire you yet. Plus, it's the government, and they're slow about these things. I hope you get good news soon. Chat Icon

CRAP. You're right. I just did some research online re: federal agency funding and it does NOT look good in terms of funding. The Dept. of Ed. is operating on a continuing resolution, so I'm sure there will be no hires until the 2007 fiscal year budget is determined, which could be MONTHS.

Oy gevult. I think it's time I start expanding my employment horizons Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
