I'm going to kill her
my desk faces two floor to ceiling windows. Nice view..
She puts the shades way up. The sun is in back of her. I get blinded by it every day. She claims there is not enough light for her desk with the shades half drawn and with lights above.
I told her that it hurts my eyes to stare directly into the sun while looking at my computer. She says when my eyes start hurting she'll lower the shades.

Tell her to get a lamp.
Can the shades be replaced with blinds? If they are tilted a bit she would get light but you won't be blinded.

Re: I'm going to kill her
I did. I told her to get a lamp.
I'm going to put on my sunglasses.
She actually said that she would put them down later before my eyes start hurting. Well I'm not sure she knows when my eyes ar hurting but I'm already squinting.
I can do anything about the windows and shades.
I'm so freakin annoyed. She said she loves the sun for light and doesn't want a lamp. I guess she thinks it's the beach.
I should offer to trade desks with her. That will really send her over the edge.

Re: I'm going to kill her
Please..just one of the many things wrong with her working here.
I can't believe she actually functions.
She has no judgment and no sense.
I will seriously put on sunglasses on. I have light eyes and staring into bright sunlight hurts my eyes.
She went over to my desk to investigate and said it was fine and there was no glare.
I had a loud exchange with her and she defended her position of it was too dark at her desk. The floor to ceiling windows are 5 feet in back of her with lights above. But she likes the sulight she whined.
She needs to go work on the beach.

Re: I'm going to kill her
What if you asked HR or your boss if you can sit some where else or turn your desk around? I expect them to say no but it brings attention to the fact that this co-worker is making it difficult for you to do your work.

Yeah, that's not happening. I now have my sunglasses on.

She needs to go work on the beach.
Combined with her choice of outfits, you're probably right.
I do have to say though, as someone who fights my cave dwelling co-workres to leave the overhead lights on, I was told to get a lamp, but its not the same. That only provides light concentrated in one spot.
My co-worker who hates the lights has taken to wearing a hat.
I would think in your case, having the shades halfway down would be a good compromise though.
Is it better in the afternoon? Can you set a time to pull it up when it is less sunny?

Re: I'm going to kill her
I love the sunglasses !
I feel your pain. My back is to the wall of windows, I have glass panels in front and to the side of me that reflect the light from the overhead lights, the windows. I pulled out the bulb in the wall sconce on the column in front of me. My boss sits behind me and likes to look out the windows.
Can you also turn off the office lights in your vicinity, or would that affect other people ?

today the sun is going in and out so when it gets a little overcast I'm ok and totally willing to leave them all up. Facilities comes around on hot days and lowers the shades as an energy saver for the ac and she demands they leave it up. Everyone else has the shades drawn half way at least.
My eyes are dried out. I have two bottles of drops in my drawer.

Can't turn off the lights. They don't really bug me it's the direct sun in my eyes.
I mean, come on, do I have to squint for 10 hours a day?

perfect - switch desks if she doesn't have a problem with the light

Yep, I intend to tell her that. She won't though because she has privacy with her screen facing the window and my desk faces the hall where everyone walks down. When I moved to this office we were originally having me sit in her spot and she would move to mine but she refused. I should have seen this coming.
I'm keeping copious notes about our exchanges.

Re: I'm going to kill her
I would tell her that it's either the shades down or you switch desk with her. Should not be a problem, right? She won't have glare and she can work on her tan. You have to sell it to her.
Seriously...that's insane!!!!

I could not believe she said that to me. I'll lower the shades when your eyes start to hurt...come on.
I made her sound ridiculous when I said it back to her. So I'm going to wait until my eyes hurt before you lower the shades? She said, well no, I'll do it before your eyes hurt.
No freakin consideration...

Re: I'm going to kill her
unfortunately our office mates heard the exchange loud and clear and it made them uncomfortable.
I apologized and they agreed with me about compromising.
She is not here yet. Wonder if she is really upset about it.

Re: I'm going to kill her
I stepped away to get lunch and she raised the shades again. She is looking at me to see if I noticed.
She wants a confrontation, she will get one.
