I'm joining the BRU venting bandwagon...sorry LONG
DH and I found a bedding set we liked more than the one we received for our shower. We had the gift receipts for it, so we figured it would be no problem to return it. HA! When they scanned the items, everything came up 40 -50% less than the original price (what was paid). They tried to tell us that because it was a gift receipt (no prices) not an original receipt (with prices) they couldn't tell how much the person paid for the item, so we get the clearance price. ummm...WHAT? Aren't the SKU #'s linked??? So DH starts getting livid (and then he's no help because he starts getting loud...so our argument was getting nowhere). The assistant manager came over to "help" but it was clear she couldn't be bothered. She took one quick glance at the receipt and said that the problem is we were passed the 90 days for the return policy. We got the phone number to corporate and left. Driving home, i looked at the receipts and counted the days. We were only 83 days - not 90 days passed the date of purchase, so she was full of crap. We were able to print out a copy of the original order with the prices paid for the items from home (something they claimed in the store they could NOT do) and we went back. The assistant manager saw us walk over to the courtesy desk and WALKED AWAY from us and went into the office. She sent someone else (much more helpful, thank god) out to help us. In the middle of the transaction to get us the remaining $, a third sales associate comes over, looks at the receipts, picks up the phone right in front of us and CALLS the assistant manager who was hiding in the office and says "no, they aren't passed the 90 days. Everything was purchased on 8/18". So she sent this other girl out to check on us to try to prove us wrong again???! You'd think we were looking to grab the money out of HER pocket! All in all, we DID get all our money that was owed...but we had to go back 3 times to get it and it basically took all day Sunday. The original credit we got was for $100. We left at the end of the day with $170. Big difference.
Just be careful and have EVERYTHING with you and be prepared to defend yourself because this store is really getting ridiculous.

Another reason why I'm NOT registering at BRU - convenient or not, I don't care. I won't give them the business..........REALLY?? You make a PREGNANT woman THAT upset ??? It's not like you were being unreasonable !!

ditto!!!! DH and I went to the Paramus BBB on Sat and loved it!!!1 He even commented to me how helpful and knowledgeable the sales people were!
Sorry you had to go through this- hopefully with more word of mouth BRU will learn its lesson ( doubtful but one can hope they get theirs fo rputting pg women through this!)

That makes no sense. The PURPOSE of a gift receipt is so that the store knows how much it was purchased for. The only way you should get the sales price is if the person that gave the gift bought it on sale. BRU is horrible. It used to be so much easier to return stuff there.

Stories like yours are why I only registered at BBB when I had my daughter - they always just struck me as being sleazy. I had a horrific time with them when I ordered my glider and it was defective (dutalier) to the point that it couldn't be put together - and they tried to refuse to exchange it for a new one b.c it was "custom" cushions. Then tried to tell me it would take 16 weeks to get (when the first only took 4) after all the hassle and multiple trips I ended up getting a standard pattern just so I could get ONE in 4 weeks b.c by that time the baby was coming soon.
I like them even less now that they are gift receipt only. I also had issues with parts missing from several items I bought.

Seriously, if a bunch of us wanted to open a baby store, we would be millionaires. This place is horrible no matter where you go- mine in LA is no different. They have a corner on the market and they know it.
Its time for some competition- anyone in?
