what happens when you bruise underneath your toenail?

I did this to my right big toe approximately 6 weeks ago walking in sneakers that were too tight. It was sore for a couple of days but went away and then I forgot all about it. Two weeks later when I got a pedicure, I saw that 50%-75% of it was *gulp* pretty discolored. Again, I forgot all about it and then just went for another pedi on Saturday; it doesn't seem to have gotten any better.

I told my pedicure lady and she said "Me too!" and showed me HER nail. Chat Icon I figure if there were some impending horror story, she would be the one to tell me, being she works with feet all day long! Chat Icon Also, there has been no pain and the nail is still growing so...what's the deal? Will it be like this forever?!?!!

I am HIGHLY squeamish and disgusted by toenail things in general, so please, if you have a gross story, tread lightly! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It is called a hematoma. It is a blood blister under the nail. Let it grow out, keep it trimmed. I had this and it took 10 months for mine to grow out on my big toe.
Ps I have worked for a podiatrist for many yrs.
