I'm looking to follow Rachel's lead and blow off my inlaws (Sorry it got a little long)

Well just specifically my SIL. It's not that I hate or anything. We've always been polite and civil to each other but we have nothing in common either and I would never consider her to be a friend.
Here's a quick background story: My SIL (DH's sister) is a single woman who lives in Manhattan. Any family functions on his side usually involves us (DH, myself & MIL) going to see her. She loves to travel been to many places around the world but somehow Long Island is too much of a hassle for her to get to. She rarely comes out here so if we don't go to visit then we don't see her (not really crying about that Chat Icon ). Anyway as some of you know I was in the hospital 2 wks ago because I was having pre term contractions. My hospital stay ran into mother's day weekend. We had plans to go to my Aunt's house for lunch and my Aunt graciously extended the invite to my MIL and SIL. Well obvioulsy I couldn't make it but I told everyone else to go and then come by the hospital and bring me leftovers. Well my SIL blows off her own mother because she had just gotten a cat and she was getting fixed the next day and she didn't want to leave it or some BS like that was the reason she couldn't come. Chat Icon She never even acknowledged me or the fact that I was in the hospital but I wasn't even upset about that I just thought it was incredibly rude to dis your own mom on Mother's day. Anyway to wrap this up because it's getting long she has never taken any interest in mine or DH's lives, who knows if she'll even be able to tear herself away from her busy life to come to my shower. So she is singing in a band this Wednesday and wanted us all to come out and see her (naturally it is in Manhattan) and I just don't feel like treking it into the city to go see miss universe singing (and in case you were wondering we've seen her sing many times before so this isn't a once in a lifetime opportunity) Anyway I just got off the phone with MIL she wanted to know if we were still going and I told her I don't think I want to be traveling that far from home right now and I'm not sure how I'll feel. And what does she tell me: "well she'll be real disappointed if you don't come". So now I don't want to go just for spite (yeah I know I'm evilChat Icon )

If you're actually still reading this sorry I've wasted your time but would you swallow your pride and go or give her a taste of her own medicine?

Honestly - I wouldn't go.
For one reason - she couldn't come see you or her own mother
and also for the reason - is you really shouldn't be doing too much traveling.
You are pregnant- you should be able to do whatever you want - not what everyone else wants you to do. Chat Icon

No way!! Why must you, pregnant, cater to someone else who can't even visit their own mother on Mother's Day!

I wouldn't go, especially since you were hospitalized for pre-term labor . They will get over it and I am sure that she will have more shows.

No, don't go. Better yet, say you are going to go so you look good to your MIL and when the day comes, say you aren't feeling up to it (use any pg excuse in the book!) and back out at the last minute. And you thought you were evil...he he

i wouldn't go....IMO under your circumstances you shouldn't be going out into the city. Aren't you on bedrest? even if your not anymore, she doesn't go out of her way for you, so I wouldn't go out of my way for her!
