I'm new on these boards & have a few questions
Hi, everyone,
My husband & I have been TTC for over a year now. We recently went to a fertility doctor where they did an ultrasound & advised me that I do not have many eggs left. We had our blood work done & my husband had a semen analysis done. It showed borderline motility & diminished morphology. I am scheduled to have an HSG xray on Wednesday (so nervous-has anyone had one?) and Thursday we have an appt. with another doctor for a second opinion. We were not given very high numbers as far as our chances of getting pregnant naturally or with IUI. We are not covered for IVF. After the second opinion, we are going to sit down & discuss our options and take it from there.
If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. This is all very scary & nervewracking to us. Thank you so much.

Re: I'm new on these boards & have a few questions
Hi I'm new to these boards as well and I completely understand your anxiety about it all. I just had an HSG about 10 days ago. I'm not gonna lie it hurt a little bit but as soon as it was done I was fine. My doctor gave me antibiotics to take the day before and the day of the procedure to prevent infection. And he also advised to take advil a few hours before & after the HSG too. Please feel free to ask any ??'s Good luck and lots of

Re: I'm new on these boards & have a few questions
Welcome ...I too had an HSG in '05 and it wasnt unbearable but not comfortable either (The tech who was performing it I think unfortunately didnt help any, he seemed inexperienced)..When its over, its over though- except for a little crampiness...Its a pretty short procedure...There are many women who said it was a breeze so I think it kinda depends (also from what I hear, if you have a blockage it is a little bit worse)...If I remember correctly, I took ibuprofen beforehand- (Just check with your Dr.) and that helped..As far as the IVF- NYS has a grant that might help you (if you go to a participating RE) and meet the criteria: http://www.health.state.ny.us/community/reproductive_health/infertility/demonstration_program/
Hope that helps !...Good Luck !!!

Re: I'm new on these boards & have a few questions
The HSG is different for everyone. I only had one quick, sharp pain and that was it.
Just wanted to welcome you and wish you lots of luck

I had no pain with the HSG, in fact I really didn't feel anythng besides the speculum. Everyone is different though.
Good luck to you!

HSG was very painful for me. If you don't have coverage for IVF, you can apply for the NYS Grant. I know some girls from lif applied for it . Good Luck
