I'm not sure I'll survive mommyhood with my sanity...

I have a 9 week old and I feel like just when things are going well, boom, something else comes up.

I'll start by saying that I had been to the pediatrician FIVE times by the time my DS was 3 weeks old. Add to that a visit to the Pediatric Opthamologist at 6 DAYS, the GI doctor at 6 weeks, the Pediatric Cardiologist at 7 weeks, and at least 3 more pediatrician visits not to mention 2 calls to emergency number. No major findings - eyes and heart are fine, no issues, and just some mild reflux.

So last night I notice that my DS' eye is swollen - not red or teary but his eyelid was swollen. DH tells me he noticed it the night before. My mom who watches hims says she noticed it days ago (at this point I feel like a bad mom who didn't notice her kids eye was starting to swell). At 4 AM when he woke up, its still swollen.

I call the eye doc today about the swollen eye and they say bring him right in. I say are you sure it can't wait for his apptmt which is scheduled for tomorrow at 9 AM (we made this apptmt 2 months ago). I explain eye is not red, etc. They say no, has to be now we're booked all afternoon. I work in the city so I had to ask my mom and dad totake him right away which was hard since my mom's on crutches since she had knee surgery on Friday. I felt so bad making them rush (they had only 25 minutes to get there)

All this to find out that his eyes are fine and that its his birth mark (hemangioma) making his eye look swollen. Dr. said its an optical illusion, that its not really swollen. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was so worried and now feel so bad that my parents had to rush over there (DH is off tomorrow). When does the drama end? I'm thinking never. I'm so relieved but the stress and worry all the time is killing me. The working mom guilt isn't helping either Chat Icon

It's so hard in the beginning because you don't know what's right and you don't trust your instincts yet. Clearly, your instincts were right to begin with when you didn't notice any swelling since there was none! Believe it or not, all this parenting stuff will become second nature to you soon. Hang in there!Chat Icon

DS had 2 surgeries by the time he was 3 months old. I've aged 10 years. I didn't realize how much of an easy breezy life I had before I became a parent.

I have aged so much being a mom.

I felt as though I had lost my mind 1.5 years ago.

I am stopping at 2 kids.

This sounds so incredibly stressful Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm really sorry about all the drama, but thank God DS is OK. I know it will definitely get better, it really just takes a little time. You just had a BABY, your hormones are probably off the charts, you're back to work, and the little guy's had lots of poking and prodding -- that is a TOUGH 2 months, and I hope the next 2 are completely UNEVENTFUL for you both.
