I'm sick and fed up...please help

I will keep this as short as possible. First off, i am a teacher and 2 of my students have confirmed cases of swine (one was even hospitalized) and about 10 others are out with flu that has been considered H1N1 by the school. Multiple teachers are out. Here's where i come in. I developed a fever last week(between 100 and 101) and went to the dr. The dr. said i was fine and the fever was a fluke. Fast forward to this weekend....really exhausted, no fever. Onto Monday...left school early with a fever between 100 and 102. Went to the dr. She said that i "look too good to have the flu." She said she thinks i may have an upper respiratory. Never did a swab of my nose. Today is day 2 on the antibiotics and i know they can take some time to work but i still have a fever. My other symptoms are a horrible barking cough, lightheadedness, i had a headache that finally went away, weakness, today is the first day i'm not crazy achey, but i am beyond exhausted. I have no energy whatsoever, and i have no appetite. So my question is....if i'm not feeling any better tomorrow and i'm still running the same fever, do i go back to the doctor? My mom said i should demand she test for the flu. Either way i know it won't make much difference if i know but the problem is i have a lung condition and asthma so i am concerned. Plus i was on long term steroids so my immunity is low. Please help!

I would absolutely call them as soon as they open and demand to be tested. If they don't take you seriously, find another doctor who will. I can't believe that with the severity of this matter, they would even take testing you so lightly. That's ridiculous!!!! I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling ill and they should be doing much more for you right now. Please keep us updated. I agree. Go get tested.

It could also be Mono.

I hope you feel better soon.

The thing is even if she tests you for the flu, it's only 70% accurate (my friend's daughter was told she didn't have it and 2 days later was tested again and it came back positive) and they can't give you the TamiFlu past 36 hours into it. More than likely she'll just tell you to rest and drink lots of fluids.

It was wrong of her not to test you in the first place because if it is the flu you could have bene treated with the TamiFlu. I'd look for a new doc. Hope you feel better soon!
