I’m so disgusted with the world.
I was reading an article yesterday that said major corporations (CVS, Target, TJ Maxx) to name a few are turning huge profits because they are jacking up prices when they don’t really need to – all in the name of inflation.
I know corporate greed is not a new thing and maybe I’m just naive, but it really makes me upset. The average American household is forking over $400 (seems like more) extra every month for the same things they were buying two years ago.
It’s gross and I just had to get it out because it upset me so much. Corporate pockets are getting fatter and fatter, while we’re struggling to make ends meet.

Re: I’m so disgusted with the world.
Do you have that article as I think most of the time (and I know not all) prices go up for them so they have to increase their prices.
If prices are going up for the majority of stores, I would think these would not be any different.
Also, edited to say, everyone wants minimum wage to go up so while that goes up, they also have to increase their prices. Everyone knew this would happen, especially to smaller places that can't afford to give huge raises out.

I'M DISGUSTED TO!! it's shameful on one hand how price gauging is allowed every time there is a crisis. I do believe, consumers are a part this as well. With the constant online, amazon shopping, the "demand" for products also plays a role.
However, in the world we live in, now and always, it's not about the people, it's about profit.
I stand with you staceywill!!

Re: I’m so disgusted with the world.
CVS's prices are disgusting. I bought cough syrup there a few months ago and it was $18.99. Something that cost like $9 on Amazon, but this was 11pm at night and my options were few and far between. Their vitamin prices have doubled, as has just about every other medical item in their store. It's disgusting. I no longer shop there.
Target is annoying also, and I've found that they rarely put things on sale that used to be on sale all the time prior to the start of the pandemic. Clothing especially in their stores. I'm always in there and it's rare to see much on sale.

CVS has ALWAYS been a rip off. Even prior to all this. I remember seeing items in CVS for like $4 more than at Target or elsewhere. Not a few cents- like dollars more! The only way to ever shop there is if you have a discount code or a coupon on your extracare card. And that would only bring it the same price as elsewhere - never cheaper. I only shop there in a pinch.
For Target- I remember when the Sayville location opened their prices were like a dollar or so higher than the location I used to shop by work. I found that annoying as well... shouldn't they all have the same prices?

I always find CVS overpriced - but with those coupons they send it's a little better.
I hate how the prices at Target are different online and in store - and how the app adjusts to the in store prices when you are in store.

Walmart has the best prices IMO. I shop there every week instead of grocery stores and then supplement with fruits, veggies, meat, etc at Meat Farms.

I agree about Walmart. I shop there for a lot of basics, like tissues, hand soap, they are both .98 there, cheaper than dollar twenty five tree now! Most of my grocery shopping I do at Aldi though since it's dirt cheap.
And Walmart has really upped their game in some of the clothing and housewares they offer. I found the cutest BCBG dress there the other day for $35

I hate that too about target. I always double check everything I’m buying on the app now before I buy it.
While doing that I also discovered that some sells they have (it seems to be on food ) in the store do not always show up on the app. So if you’re doing a store pick up you could potentially paying more for something that might be on sale in the store

I haven’t noticed the price differences in target but BJ’s does this. The Farmingdale BJ’s will sometimes have things cheaper than a Levittown BJ’s it’s so bizzare. I only discovered this because I was trying to do a store pick up and one of the stores and then try the opposite and wanted realize the prices are different!!

The other thing is- even if the inflation stops, levels out, etc, I have never seen a store drop their prices in relation to that. So I expect the increases to stay around- regardless of what happens in the economy

We have reached peak capitalism. How much more can be extracted from people, from products, from monetization? It's all downhill from here baby.

Actually milk and eggs went back down but the cashier said they were going back up. Not sure about that but will keep an eye out to see if that happens.

Yup! They sold us on the American dream, or capitalist dream wherever you may be, and you can buy what you want as long as you work hard. Yet, we are working so hard and now we can’t afford things. But those at the top benefit from us working so much, so why stop now?
It’s all downhill is right.
I blame the Boomers. And the real Boomers, not the Xers, which everyone forgets about anyway.

i think this goes back to before boomers. we've been on this downward spiral since the industrial revolution began. we've changed labor laws, we've invented the middle class, we've created suburbs... which have all been band-aids and poor facades for the real ugliness that goes on in capitalism. it's all a way of dividing those of use at the bottom so we fight each other and waste all our resources and we don't see who the real bad guys are.

Re: I’m so disgusted with the world.
I do agree to a point. The pricing is outragous at some of these stores. However, I am in the distribution business and I can tell you EVERY SINGLE DAY we are getting price increases. It's getting more and more expensive to import from overseas.
In the end, these retailers take the price increase and pass it to the customer. Big box stores can absorb some of the cost to keep pricing down, but they choose not to to keep their profits high! It is disgusting and sad.. and I'm making a promise to myself to stop spending on the stuff I don't need. :( It's not easy!!

Yes, very true. But the Boomers put a lot of Bandaids on things. It’s a complicated issue and it is coming to a head now.

If it scans a lower price on the cartwheel app, you can have them price match. I do it all the time.

My app would show different prices at home than when I was in the store! I finally kept tabs open on the internet to show them.
I just went to the supermarket to buy snacks. It was crazy how things I used to get on sale for $1.99 that were maybe $3.99 reg price are now over $5!

A gallon of skim milk at Aldi was $1.98 last night. Just sharing that for people who go through several gallons a week like we do! That's actually cheaper than the $2.50 that it was last week!

We don't drink skim but that is a great price. The highest I have seen a gallon of milk was $5 and that was at Walmart. It went down but the cashier is saying it will go back up. I don't know if she really knows that for sure but we don't drink too much so we are good.
