I'm so proud of my baby Girl!!!
We have left her alone and out of the crate all week this week while at work and she has been awesome!!! I think our baby is growing up!!!
It started cuz I didn't want her in the crate Monday due to the heat...so we experimented and she was fine.
Then by Wednesday, it had cooled and I had some misgivings but decided to give it a shot and we've left her out everyday and no problems at all. Plus, I feel better cuz she can actually bark if someone comes near the house...and she can move around during the day instead of being in a box.

Re: I'm so proud of my baby Girl!!!
Congrats!
I always loved that feeling (and we didnt even have to crate often since one of us was always home) so I can imagine how good you feel.
I suggest just limiting a room or two if you want.
For me, when my boy dog was first left out of the crate (even if its only 2 hours), he would pull the threads out of my rugs!
So I limited him to one or two rooms (kitchen, dining room). And that did the trick (plus taking up any throw rugs he could get a hold of).
I leave safe toys for them, their beds, water, etc and they have two good sized rooms. To me anything is better than them being confined to a crate if they dont need to be. They willl get used to things, they will be able to play with a toy, stretch, etc and that must be nice for them. My dogs are so cute, they play while I am gone. Or one or both might sleep.
I also leave the tv on for noise and so they think its all the same whether we are there or not.
Also if your dog is a barker...my dog is. So I dont leave windows open in the rooms they are in (our house is always very cool). That way he wont disturb my neighbors.
I used to worry what if there was a fire when I was gone. That if they were crated, they couldnt even TRY to get away from it. SO now at least i feel they have a better chance of escaping somehow. Or to get to a window so a neighbor could find them and rescue them. Crazy my mind isnt it?
Congrats again! baby steps! I am very happy for you and I would be happy to help you out with any suggestions I might have to offer if you have a tough time.

Re: I'm so proud of my baby Girl!!!
Well...she is still doing great!!! We left early this morning for a wedding and just got home...and still no problems!!!
We do close off the bedrooms so she only has the front of the house. But, I feel so much better knowing that she can bark if she hears or sees something (she's not an excessive barker) and she can move around if she needs to. We leave the room with her crate open so if she wants, she can go sleep in her crate.
Either way, I'm just so happy she has finally learned how to behave while we are gone and we don't have to worry.
BTW, Kara - don't feel bad...we have lost a coffee table and numerous pillows in prior attempts. And, don't forget, she is almost three now so she might actually be growing up.

Re: I'm so proud of my baby Girl!!!
Good girl! I don't think we'll ever let Katie roam the house when we are out. She's confined to the kitchen, she doesn't seem to mind.
