I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
I posted about this a LONG time ago, but I think I reached the end of my rope today...
Our cat, Nugget, is 3 years old. For the past 2 years or so, he's been throwing up very regularly--at it's best, he was throwing up about once a week. But usually, it's at least 3 times a week, and this week it's been every single day.
He's been to the vet NUMEROUS times. We spend hundreds of dollars on bloodwork and ultrasounds just to hear that everything is "normal", and that "he must just have a sensitive stomach".
We've switched his food about 4 times in the last 2 years, trying to find the best food for him. It still ends in the same result. Sometimes the vomit has hair, but most of the time it doesn't.
I reached the end of my patience today when I found my daughter with vomit all over her hands. Apparently he had thrown up in her play area and I missed it.
I'm so sick of being told that there's nothing wrong with him. This is NOT normal.
We're having new living room carpet installed at the beginning of next week (thanks to my Mom's cat, who decided she's was going to urinate next to the window almost every day that she lived here), and I REALLY don't want to have to deal with this anymore--the living room seems to be his favorite place to vomit.
What should I do? We love him to death, and we want to help him...for his health, and for our sanity.

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
went through the same thing with my cat. Everything normal . So what my vet told me to do and it seems to lessen it alot. small feeding. 3 times a day, no wet food and there is a cat vitamin that has seem to help. I have to grab the bottle to tell you them name. but it really helped. She is a fast eater. so anymore then less then a handful at a time and she would vomit. and water was the same thing less amounts through out the day. not to leave it out all the time. It is hard because i have so many pets but this cat lucky is a loner and only stays in my room.

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
ok the vitamin is by Hartz and called Vitamin Care. I give her one in the morning and one at night right in her dish. she likes it now but when i first started to give it to her she would not take it so i would crush it up and put it in her water. She loved it that way. Now she will take it in her food, so less cleaning out of her water bowl. good luck I hope this helps.

I also had a puker - his was mostly hairballs. A little olive oil in my cat's dry food helped, and daily brushing. When his stomach was really acting up, I fed him rice and boiled minced chicken

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
Thank you both for your help I will try anything at this point.
I just don't understand how everything can be "normal". I keep thinking that if this was me, getting sick almost every day, that wouldn't be normal...

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
Some cats just have really sensitive stomachs. I forgot to add that my vet had also told me to feed him human baby food on occasion. Stage one meats, like veal or chicken. My cat hated it, so I gave him mashed tuna in oil mixed with his dry food. Tuna alone doesn't have enough nutrition.
At least he's not sick. Suc ks when that happens.

Have you gone to a vet that specializes in cats? I don't just mean a regular small animal vet, but a practice that is dedicated only to cats?
If not, that would be my next step.
Good luck.

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
My cat is 12, and has been doing this for YEARS...its very frustrating, an no the Vets never found something wrong. It happens when she eats too fast or when she gets really nervous/scared...which is a lot.
I wish I had advice, I did start feeding smaller amounts more often and that seems to help, but not perfect

I haven't been to a cat specialist, but you're right, that DOES seem like a really good idea.
We feed him only dry food--he won't eat the wet stuff.
We've never had issues with him overeating...but maybe we SHOULD just give him a little bit of food over the course of the day.
As a side note, he ONLY seems to vomit at night while we're sleeping, it's ALWAYS in the morning that we find it...

Re: I'm so sick of my cat throwing up all the time
I think I saw something in a pet supply catalog or on a website...it is a feeder that forces the cat to "work" for their food, thus forcing them to eat slower. Perhaps that might work? I find my my cat throws up after she has scarfed down her food or runs around right after she has eaten. If you see that its happening only at night time, what about taking his food away at night?
