Im such a baby
so this morning was my 1st lupron injection and i couldnt do it! it took me an hour to finally ask my mom to do it for me. I tried so hard to just do it but i couldnt. i woke my mom up at 5:10am and she thought something was wrong cause I was crying I think its just that i have a HUGE i mean HUGE fear of needles and i cant over come it. so it looks like my mom will be doing my injections for me. DH was going to do it for me before he left for work but i thought i could be brave and overcome my fear,,,,,NOPE!
Please tell me im not a big baby
Thanks for letting me vent

Re: Im such a baby
Ok, let me tell you, there was no one on earth more scared of needles than I. I used to pass out at the mere sight of them and my doctor would send me to the hospital to get my bloodwork done.
But a few months ago, on my last injectable IUI cycle, I decided enough was enough and if I was going to move forward with IVF, I would have to get over this fear and do it myself. And I did. I took that little needle, I closed my eyes, and I counted to three, and pushed it into my belly.
Let me tell you, I've never felt so empowered in all my life, and I'll tell you something else - it hurts SO much less when you do it yourself, and you will realize it's not at all a big deal. When you have someone else do it, you build it up so much, but when you do it yourself, it takes all the buildup out of it.
Try again tonight - ice your belly so you won't even feel it. I promise, you'll be amazed at how easy it is

Re: Im such a baby
You can and you will overcome it... trust me! I used to faint during routine PAP exams, that's how worked up over anything medical related I used to get. Up until the time I met and married my husband (in my 30's), I would have to have one of my parents drive me to the Dr. if I ever needed bloodwork done, or just a visit to the Dr.
It does get easier over time, it really does! It was pure drama fest in my house when I first started my injections, to the point my husband decided to take over. If I absolutely had to, I would have given myself the shots, but in the end, it was easier for me to have DH to do, and I got over my fear of doctors and needles VERY quickly! It's very easy to do once you do it!

Re: Im such a baby
I strated my Lupron shots on Thursday. I dont have a fear of needles, but more squeamish about seeing the needles piercing skin, but Ihad no choice but to do itmyself because I work and have to inject myself at work. DH did my first one, and I didnt even feel it. So I did the secondone, and every one from then on, it really is painless. Mixing the meds was harder at first than injecting them.

Re: Im such a baby
I've shared my story a bunch of times on here. I actually had a whole panic attack before I did my first shot (gonal-f pen). took me about an hour to just "do it". When I actually did it, I felt nothing. It was so much easier than I had anticipated. I don't even no what I thought would happen. But, have your Mom help for a few days and when you are more comfortable and realize it doesn't hurt then give it a try. Like Beth said, you will feel so empowered that you did something you didn't think you could.
Now, don't talk to me about the IM needles because I pay a nurse to do those for me. DH wont go near the needles and I wont do it myself. But, sometimes I think i probably could, i just haven't tried yet.
Good luck with your injections and your cycle!!!!!!!!!!

Come to think of it, the first time I did it, I was out at a restaurant with DH, and really tipsy. I think that's how I braved through it - not saying you should go get stinking drunk, but hey, whatever works works!
