I know there must be a list like the wedding to do list floating around somewhere....

ALSO - what clothing do you bring for yourself to go home in? And how many pairs of outfits/clothing do you bring for yourself? Do you hang around in a hospital gown after the child birth until you go home?

Someone, please explain to big dumb preggo over here... Chat Icon

here

Expect to be wearing your maternity clothes for the 1st week or 2...

Sweat suites are great- nice, big, and comfy!

being that I just gave birth- this is firm in my mind:

your own pillow in colored/patterned pillowcase so hospital doesn't mistake it for theirs.
boppy (i brought mine & didn't use it- but I know a lot of people used theirs).
bathrobe
slippers
the first night you'll wear their hopsital gowns- b/c they'll be changing you and what not- but after that I would say have 1 other nightgown and maybe two other pajama sets- i'm not a gown girl- i like pants & top- i had a section and was still able to wear my pants w/ a t-shirt and was much more comfortable.
for toiletries- bring stuff to take a shower and your own towel- i forgot to and the hospital towels are like sandpaper.
as for makeup- i brought mine but didn't really get a chance to put it on. But that is b/c the baby was down in the NICU and I was running back and forth to see her.
as for what to wear to go home- i wore maternity jeans and a maternity sweater- I was still pretty swollen.

I was so anal about this. I printed out everyone's lists and then cross referenced and came up with this:

Labor bag checklist
General:
___ Camera and/or video camera
___ Cash
___ Change for the phone/phone card
___ Extra batteries/battery pack
___ Film and tapes
___ Portable phone
For labor:
___ Facecloth from home (colored, so it doesn't get into hospital laundry)
___ Lollipops and hard candy (for dry mouth)
___ Watch or stopwatch (with a second hand for timing contractions)
___ Mr. Happy (massager from Bath & Body Works)
Comforts of home:
___ Books/magazines
___ Small cooler with drinks and snacks
___ Tape/CD Player
___ Tapes/CDs
___ Extra pillow/s (colored pillowcase, so it doesn't get into hospital laundry)
For your partner:
___ Change of clothes
___ Snacks
After birth:
___ Baby book & stuff for nurse to put baby’s footprints on (white T-shirt, etc)
___ Thank-you cards/notes
___ Large bag to bring home gifts and hospital supplies
___ Phone number list
Clothing:
___ Bathrobe
___ Loose, comfortable outfits
___ Nightgown
___ Nursing bras
___ Nursing pads
___ Slippers
___ Thick socks
___ Underwear
Personal care:
___ Body soap
___ Brush/comb
___ Deodorant
___ Earplugs
___ Facial soap
___ Glasses
___ Hairbands (ponytail holders)
___ Lip salve/chapstick
___ Lotion
___ Maxipads
___ Mouthwash/breath mints
___ Prescription medications you're taking
___ Shampoo/conditioner
___ Toothbrush/toothpaste
For Baby:
___ Approved carseat
___ Going-home outfit
___ Hat/cap
___ Recieving blankets

HTH

eta: I used the hospital pads and disposable underwear. I'd get extra to take home with you and I'd save yours for the week after you get home (so you don't ruin them).
