I'm thinking the movie "Indiana Jones" may not be appropriate for children
My neighbor told me the other day that another neighbors son saw the movie Indiana Jones and drew a swastika (I'm not even sure if that is how you spell it) at school. Ummm...and he's only in kindergarten
Than today at the park with the same neighbor and her kids, we see this kid who is about 8 or 9 ride up on his bike with fake snakes wrapped around him, a cowboy hat, a toy gun and toy sword. He was chanting the Indiana Jones theme. We thought it as pretty funny and harmless. Than he ran onto the swingset where there is a rope and yelled "Let's get the Nazi's"
I never watched any of the Indiana Jones movies but I am thinking if this is what children are learning from the movie, they probably shouldnt be watching it Don't parents pay attention!

Ok, well the first story really is hearsay, really.
And am I wrong that the second thing isn't THAT bad? I mean, don't kids want to get bad guys and aren't Nazi's bad guys?
But I think you may be being a little judgmental. How do you know they definately saw the movie? Maybe they overhead people talking about it...who knows!

I think the new indiana jones movie involves the Communists and russia not the nazi's - that is from the original Indiana jones movie. That must be from watching the original movies - but I would think the parents should be discussing that stuff with their child if they are yelling that or drawing those pictures - although remember when we were young we all saw star wars and Indiana Jones and I'm sure kids out there pretended they were on the hunt for treasures.

Well, that was kind of my point. I didnt think it was either.
And to the above poster, my neighbor asked the 9 yr. old if he saw the movie and he said yes in the theatres. Of course he could be lying. And of course kids want to get the bad guys and the bad guys are the Nazi's....I just never heard the word come from a 9 yr olds mouth and was kind of taken back, my neighbor was as well. Especially when they dont know the history behind it, etc. it is not really something bad or not that little kids should be yelling in public, JMO.

Well from my understanding it's not about Nazis this time. It's based during the Cold War in 1957.

I saw it. It is rated PG=13...unless your neighbors kid is really, really dumb he is most likely NOT 13 and in Kindergarten so I believe the parents are plain stupid! We saw it and there were children 4 yrs old, 8 yrs olds. It was awful IMO. The movie is not for young children.

Okay, I think your first comment was just really uncalled for.
My son is 9, saw the movie over the weekend and has not so much as mumbled the word Nazi or came home with drawings of swasticas. He enjoyed the movie, as did his father.

ITA. The age ranges are suggested ages. There are 20+ year old who are not mature enough to watch PG 13 movies. There are DC much younger than 13 who can watch it. DS watches movies rated above his age. We decide what he can and can't watch, not some committee of strangers. Yes, I appreciate their recommendations, but I'll decide what DS is ready for.
If the first child has any exposure to Indian culture (as well as many other cultures), the swastika is a symbol of peace, and still a very common image.
