im too scared to cut her nails!
DD needs a serious manicure ...haha! BUt ever since I cut her thumb the last time I cut them, I'm too afraid to do it. I had the perfect opportunity before too...I had the clippers in hand and was all ready to do it, but I just freaked out! Tips? Advice? I want DH to do it, but he's never home at the opportune time!

Most people suggest doing it when they sleep...but I would wake DS up, so I have to do it when hes awake. I concentrate on getting one hand done at a time....if I have to do one and then wait a few hours, ill do the second later. I usually put DS in his bouncy seat or exersaucer and sometimes if I sing to him, he will sit still for a few moments...

I used to cut my DD's when she fell asleep in the car seat. Go slow and you will be fine. I still wait for DD to sleep before I cut her nails and she is 2 1/2.

Can you use a file? I did for a while after I cut DS thumb too. Now the only time I can get near him with the clipper is when he is sleeping.

I've tried the file before but found it annoying to use. Now that her nails are so long maybe it'll actually be easier :) I need to get over this or else she'll have to wear mittens the rest of her life!

I usually cut DD's right after her bath. This way they are even softer. She hates it though and moves a lot. It takes me a while with her sometimes.

We cut DSs thumb while clipping his nails also--it was horrible! I don't blame you for being afraid.
Ever since then, we have filed his nails. Works just fine and no gashes.

I have my sister do it - i am too scared and last time DH did it, DS cried and screamed. My sister is so good at it, everytime we see her, we make her do it!

I cut DS once when he was a baby and he screamed, I felt HORRIBLE. So after that (while he was a baby) I would bite his nails  it worked for a while and I knew I wouldn't cut him. Now that he's old enough I use clippers and it's still a struggle sometimes, but he holds still long enough for me to do it!

I cut DS 2x...But as they say you have to get back on the horse.
For awhile I used to do it during his last feeding. DH would give him a bottle and he would be so relaxed getting ready for bed, he would just watch me cut them without ever moving.

I was so scared too so I always filed but she still cut herself. I think filing can make them short but still sharp. My mom had an infant nail scissor that came in some grooming kit and it works great. It is really easy to use and gets the nails really short.

I hear you! I also cut DS once when cutting his nails, I felt terrible. I've gotten much better at it now. When you hold each finger, push the skin back away from the nail when you cut. (hard to explain, hope that makes sense).

That's exactly how we do it. One of us feeds him, the other cuts the little claws. They are SHARP!

I use the baby nail scissors. I cut my DD once too when she was little. I know it made me feel bad too.
