I'm wondering...Elective C-section and Insurance?
I don't want to debate why people choose to get elective c-sections, I am not even saying that I am thinking about it...what I am wondering is if your c-section is elective, is your insurance coverage the same as if it were medically necessary??

Re: I'm wondering
Im hoping I DONT get one. I hope I can give birth vaginally to my twins, but if I have to then I will. I would never choose to have one. My insurance does cover it though.

It covers elective dollar for dollar?
I don't know if that seems fair or not.

Re: I'm wondering...Elective C-section and Insurance?
interesting question. Since c-section you stay extra days in the hospital, def anasthesia bill....seems weird that it would be covered electively.

I know someone who elected to have her first child as a c-section. I guess she didn't want to deal with labor -- not a decision I would have made. In the end she had a more difficult time recovering from the surgery than she had expected.
ETA: I don't know what her insurance situation was, but I think it was covered.

Re: I'm wondering...Elective C-section and Insurance?
How would the insurance company know if she elected to have the c-section or if it was suggested to her?

I would guess that it would depend on how the doctor coded it

Re: I'm wondering...Elective C-section and Insurance?
I belive that it is covered, and I know of two people at work who had elective c-section. I don't know what their thinking was, but I personally would not make the same choice. But, everyone is different.
