I'm worried! Anyones kids have an elevated TSH?

My 7 yo had blown drawn and her TSH levels were elevated, we re-did them and they are still up there (6.4) My doc wants us to see an endocrinologist, anyone ever have experience with this, I'm a bit concerned. TIAChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm worried! Anyones kids have an elevated TSH?

I don't have any experience with a child, but my thyroid is underactive which causes my TSH levels to be elevated. I take meds to regulate it. The meds are harmless, but important to me that I take it daily.

I hope everything works itself out... Chat Icon

Same here. I take meds daily and I feel much better. Thyroid issues are often hereditary. Two of my aunts and my mom has the same thing. Anyone in your family have thyroid issues?

Also, it's not a difficult thing to keep tabs on, and it is a very easy exam- so your daughter will be ok.Chat Icon

Re: I'm worried! Anyones kids have an elevated TSH?

I've taken meds to regulate mine since I was a teenager. Once they get DD's regulated, she will feel a lot better. Good luck.

Re: I'm worried! Anyones kids have an elevated TSH?

My daughter's thyroid is virtually non-existent. She has been on Synthroid since she was 11 and is now 20 and is doing very well. It has no side effects and she will need to take it for the rest of her life. I can recommend a great pediatric endocronologist. His name is Dr. Thomas Wilson and works out of Stonybrook Hospital. Don't worry. This will all work out. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for you and your daughter.

My DD was born without a thyroid and has been on synthriod since she is 12 days old. She will have to take it for the rest of her life. At this point is just part of the routine and she is growing wonderfully. Hang in there. I know it is overwhelming. We see Dr. Fort at Schneiders and he is great. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm worried! Anyones kids have an elevated TSH?

I had thyroid issues my entire life. I was a skinny child and had all of the other symptoms as your child does. Don't worry. All you need to do is find a good Endo. They will probably diagnose over or underactive thyroid and daily medication will take care of it.

Every woman on my Mother's side of the family has this. Don't worry- it's no big deal... it has not impacted my life at all.....Chat Icon

my daughter just did not "seen right" to me, her color looked off and I don't know, I just felt like something was not right, I truly think it is just Mother's intuition, as soon as I told my mom she encouraged me to go since she always feels "moms just know".
All my friends thought I was crazy, they felt I was putting her through a blood draw for nothing, but see, now I am glad I followed my gutChat Icon
