Immaculate Conception Day... QUESTION..
So it's today.. But here's what I don't get...
Was today the day it happened? or the day it was celebrated? How could it have happened today if he was born 2 weeks later??

Re: Immaculate Conception Day... QUESTION..
The Immaculate Conception celebrates the day Mary was conceived -- Immaculate means she was conceived without sin...

...which is why she was able to carry Jesus.
THIS IS WRONG: Jesus WAS born with original sin, which is why John the Baptist Baptised him...(at least I think I learned that in CCD)
ETA: all those years of Catholic school paid off for Kara...all those wednesdays did nothing for me.

Yes, Jesus was not technically "conceived"

Re: Immaculate Conception Day... QUESTION..
yes....
and to answer the OP's question more specifically, we do not KNOW exactly when Jesus was born. Historical records seem to think it may have been in the summer, possibly June. the calendar of that time is NOTHING like the one we use now. December 25th was chosen (in the middle ages, i believe) because it was close to the winter solstice and for the allegorical Christ being the light of the world, he leads us out of the darkness.
also, we have no idea when Mary was conceived either... it is just the date that is celebrated.
Does this make sense?

I think you are confusing the Immaculate Conception of Mary with the virgin birth of Jesus.
Look up "virgin birth" on the site Kara cited. I think that is what you are thinking of...

yes, because MARY was concevied without sin. Catholics believe that she was conceived and born without original sin like everyone else so that her body and soul would be pure to bear the Son of God.

the dates of ALL catholic celebrations were chosen to coincide with Pagan Holidays...it was easier to convert the masses when MEAD was involved

No, Jesus was not born with original sin. He was sinless. He was baptized to "fulfill all righteousness" or something along those lines. (I forget the line from the Bible.) I do remember though that John asks Jesus why he, a sinful man, should baptize the Messiah, who was without sin.
It's been a long time since my Catholic school days, but I think he was Baptized in part because he would die for OUR sins... I should try to look that up because now I can't remember it all. I also remember part of the discussion being about that Jesus, who was himself free of sin, would identify himself with sinners to free us from our sins...

Does this make sense? If I remember correctly, December was chosen by Emperor Constantine during the coversion of the Roman Empire in the 300s BC, b/c that is near the solstice and made the conversion easier for the "pagans." It is estimated that the historical Jesus was born sometime in the late spring/early summer.
