This has been around the internet a few times. I asked my DH cousin, who is a cop and on the gang task force if this is really an initiation he has heard of. He said no, but it never hurts to be careful & lock your doors, as the more it circulates, the more attractive it may become as an initiation.

He did say that it is more dangerous to look under your car before getting back in it rather than to just keep all doors locked and re-enter quickly.

I had a feeling it wasn't going to be true. But it's always a good idea to be extra cautious anyways.

i'm just scared because i have 4 teenage daughters that go to the movies every weekend...one night they were putting gas on the way to the movies and a man came up to the window and asked for a ride,i always tell them to keep their doors locked while driving and stoping at lights,ect...

my mom e-mailed it to me..her sister-in-law e-mailed it to her....whether it's true or not...i dont know..but it seems to be serving it's purpose........we are telling each other to be more safe..and as many replies as this gets...the more women,will be more cautious...thats all that counts...

Even if it's an urban legend it's still an important message. With the elimination of full serve gas stations, just exactly how do you safely fill your tank with your child in the car????

i never leave my kids in the car to get gas,you should have seen how long it took when my 4 girls were small.get 4 out of the car,put 4 in the car..i try to make sure theres gas to avoid all of that..

I don't understand......I get gas with my DD in the car all the time. Why would it not be safe- I lock the doors and I'm standing right next to the car the whole time.

ITA. I think a little vigilance goes a long way. Plus it has been proven that if you appear aware of your surroundings, then you are less likely to become the victim of a crime.

BUT I will re-iterate that checking under your car is more dangerous than just keeping it locked and getting in & out of it quickly.

AND to respond to a PP point about getting gas with kids in the car, if you use your card at the pump you are always right next to the car, no?
