Do not hire a home inspector, you should really hire a PE(professional engineer) if you are questioning structural issues.

I agree with ChrisDee. Home inspectors are great, but usually only have generalized knowlege of construction. Contact at qualified structural engineer!
If you're in Suffolk County you can FB me and i'll get you a couple of names.
