In East Meadow, is Barnum Woods schools really so much better than the others? What about the high schools?

I am looking to possibly buy a house in East Meadow. I feel like a lot of people say that Barnum Woods is the best place to be because of the schools. But what about the other elementary schools in East Meadow? Are they not just as good? It seems we can get a better house in other areas of East Meadow for less money. But I don't want to compromise and not get the "best" school for my daughter.

Also what about the high schools? Are both Clarke and EM high both good? Is one better than the other?

TIA

I know Barnum Woods has good schools however I don't think they are any better than some of the other good school disctricts.

Are you familiar with any of the other elementary schools in East Meadow? I was actually wondering how Barnum Woods compared to the other elementary schools in East Meadow.

I have lived in East Meadow my whole life, and all my kids went to school there (they are all adults now.) My kids went to Barnum Woods, and it is a very good elementary school. I have friends whose kids went to each of the EM schools, and all were happy with them. My kids all went to EM High, and have gone on to be very successful in college. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the schools. Good luck in your home search!

I grew up in EM and went to another elem school. I think they are all equal, when we all got to middle school or high school, I can't say that the kids from Barnum were higher than the kids from the other elem schools....I went to EMHS, I don't know anything about clarke..HTH

I went to Bowling Green from 4th to 6th grade and then Clarke from 7-12th. They have now changed and Bowling Green goes to 5th and Clarke 6-12th. I dont know whether any school in the district is better than others. Clarke is much smaller than EMHS, which I like, but then EMHS does offer some courses that Clarke doesnt. If I were to choose an elementary in the east meadow school district I think I would choose Meadowbrook just b/c it is smaller than the rest.

I think most of the schools in the East Meadow district are pretty good. I've never really heard anything bad about the elementary schools (specifically Meadowbrook or Bowling Green) or high schools.

My husband and all of his friends grew up in East Meadow and I've done a lot of tutoring in the district....the schools are great...Barnum Woods has the reputation of being the best of the elementary schools but my DH went to McVeigh and he turned out great :) Don't know much about Clarke and all of the schools that lead up to it but i've never heard anything bad about it!

I would look at the district as a whole and decide based on that. The kids from several different elementary schools end up at the same middle school, with Barnum Woods as one of those. I don't know if it really makes that much of a difference if a child goes to Barnum Woods over any of the other elementary schools.

Barnum Woods is the priciest neighborhood b/c of it's proximity to Merrick. All the elementary schools in EM score similarly on state tests, have close teacher-student ratios, and are all reviewed well by families.

Barnum Woods, McVey, and Parkway elementary all go to Woodland Middle and EMHS. EMHS is larger than Clarke (and I think Clarke is a 6-12 school). But again, both high schools are well regarded. It's a great town.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

EMHS does offer more courses and is much larger then Clarke, but since they are the same SD students are allowed to go to the other HS for specialty classes not offered at the other...I think

I coached at EM and was a substitute at Clarke, I have nothing but good things to say about both schools from what I saw.....

DD graduated 5th grade from Bowling Green. I know that they and Meadowbrook go to Clarke Middle & High school.

She was there from 3-5th and I liked the school. They had a great Art program and her orchestra teacher was GREAT and the music program as a whole was wonderful.
