In lieu of Jenna"s post can I thank some special ladies..
To Blissful (Maria) and ABCiverson (Amanda) for doing the beautiful work they do in taking photos of babies after they died. I know Heather (hbugal) also mentioned in the thread that she would help as well. To anyone else on this board that does this work, I thank you!! I am in AWE of these ladies, and I have been thinking of them all morning. To do such a special yet heartwrenching job so griefstricken families can have their memories forever!! Words cannot express how much I appreciate them!! We got a bunch of pictures of our son Liam after he passed but I still wish I had known of any of these organizations; they are all remarkable!!
During this time of year, we alll get wrapped up in all the commercial aspects but it is also important to remember all those that inspire us and give back!! I think these ladies do just that!!!!!!
A million hugs and kisses!!!!

Re: In lieu of Jenna"s post can I thank some special ladies..
Thank you Kathleen....
Im actually working on something very special for families facing similar situations to your own....
Over the past few months I have spoken to families who are facing a birth of a child whose chances of survival are very small. (Example being children with Trisomy 18) Of those that do survive their time on this earth will be a very short one. Giving them lasting memories of their little ones is the best gift anyone could give them.
By coming into their home on weekly/monthly basis, depending on the severity of the condition, is what my game plan is.
Unfortunately you and I know all to well how important photographs are. It's sometimes all we have to remind ourselves that once upon a time there were little boys named Jonathen, Andrew, and Liam...

Re: In lieu of Jenna"s post can I thank some special ladies..
I know how lucky I was to get to have photos of my son while he was alive. The day I heard of NILMDTS, my goal was to get to a point in my photography where I could give back and help out. Having lost a child myself I felt that if I could be strong through that, then I could be strong enough to help a family capture memories that otherwise they may lose forever. I know that when my son was passing the last thing I was thinking about was to capture every small detail of his perfect little body, those perfect little hands and ears wish I could go back and get those photos.

I have a good friend who does this but not here.. she does it in Houston, TX and her work is amazing..
I can send you to her site/give you contact info if needed..
I think this is something that we should all bond together and do..
much love to all of you!!!

Re: In lieu of Jenna"s post can I thank some special ladies..
Aww thanks Kathleen. After I got into photography I had this incredible drive to REALLY make a difference in people's lives. When I worked as a paramedic I saved peoples lives everyday and really made an impact. After I stopped working due to an accident on the job I felt a HUGE loss from the medical community. When a good friend of mine gave birth prematurely and couldn't see her baby for the first few days I was allowed into the NICU room to photograph him just hours after birth for her and went into the ICU to show her the images, it was the only connection she had to her child for a few days.
Some mothers aren't as lucky and their babies never leave the hospital and I wanted to capture for them those last few hours so that they never forget the small toes, little wrinkles and overwhelming love that they have for their children. Its the least I can do.
I live near Yale New Haven't Children's hospital and am called multiple times a week, sometimes in the middle of the night to meet with these families. Yes, I leave each session crying but my heart grows larger and fonder for so many babies that I've had the privilege to meet even if for a short while.
The organization is called NILMDTSit is a non-profit organization that provides professional photography services for those in need of them. If anyone ever has the tragic need for these services PLEASE do NOT hesitate to contact them!

how "professional" do you have to be? i mean, i have a professional camera and can take good pictures but i'm not super creative like some other photographers on this site. are there qualifications? i would love to do something like this for a family in crisis.
