In Vitro Fertilization / Egg Donor Program anyone?
Hello all! I'm a first-timer in this site so i'll need you help...
my doctor last week gave me the bad news. i'm at my early stage of menopause and i'm only 28 years old. i have an FSH level of 75! I was told 10 or less would be the norm. while getting our 2nd and 3rd opinions and alternative medicine i'm about to see my RE doctor in a week to discuss an egg donor program. please share your experience and procedure with me. it would help me so much. TIA!

Welcome!
I'm sorry to hear about your high FSH, I hope everything works out for you. As far as I know I don't think anyone has used the egg donor program, so far Sharon and LisaW have done IVF and the rest of us are getting ready to start.
Most of us are just learning about everything together.

I'm sorry I cant help, I dont know much about it. But I can recommend my RE's office if you want to get another opinion. A lot of the girls here (myself included) go to Reproductive Services of NY (offices in Mineola and Stonybrook). www.rsofny.com
Welcome and good luck and I'm sorry you have to go through this!

Re: In Vitro Fertilization / Egg Donor Program anyone?
I've gone hrough IVF but using my own eggs. We did look into egg donation in the future, if we aren't successful with my eggs. I know my RE offers an egg donor program where you can either find your own donr, or they have donor already screend for you to pick from. There are 3 way to participate: You can either be the sole recipient - meaning you get all the egss retrieved from the cyle, but you incur all of the costs, (about $20 -25,000). You can also "share" eggs, as a primary - where you are the first receiver of eggs and a secondary- where you get the second half of the eggs. Each person must get at least 4 eggs. The costs are split between the primary and secondary. If there are not 8 eggs to split, the primary gets all the eggs, and the secondary is turned away. the primary is tehn responsible for all the costs. Hope this helps. FM me if you have any questions.

You are in great hands with Dr Nanette Santoro. I don't know her personally, but I have read a lot of great things about her. Are you also considering Acupuncture to lower your FSH ? Dr Nanette Santoro has a very holistic approach so she would be able to know more about that. I wish you tons of babydust!

I am currently recieveing acupuncture treatments twice a week and taking chinese herbal medicine every morning and evening. could you tell i'm getting pretty desperate? anything that can help i'm pretty much on board with. is there any other alternative medicine i should consider? or anything? again, i'm desperate. but what i really need to do is relax and chill out.

Re: In Vitro Fertilization / Egg Donor Program anyone?
i met with Dr James Grifo yesterday to get our 2nd opinion (Dr Santoro is in November - she's so booked). he read our paperwork from my original doctor, did some tests and he concludes the same results. ho-hum... i've accepted it.. just so frustrating. he's gonna prescribe progesterone and estrogine meds for me. it looks like seeking out an egg donor is what we're leaning towards. well.. have to.
anyway.. a nurse from Dr Grifo's office called to let me know my FSH is now 49. a week ago it was at 75. and i started seeing my acupuncturist that same one week ago. could it be due to acupunture that my FSH level has gone down? it's not 'scientific' but so many ppl say it's a miracle and it cannot be explained.. at least it's hard to. what are your thoughts on acupunture? has anyone ever been a patient of it?
my hub and i have a date with our original doctor today, Dr Grazi. along with Dr Grazi we have to see an egg donor coordinator and psych counselor - to see if we're (moreso i) mentally stable to go through this. this is so overwhelming. hope all goes well!

Re: In Vitro Fertilization / Egg Donor Program anyone?
You are combining acupuncture with what type of herbs? The combination will bring down your FSH. The acupuncture definitely has helped. Acupuncture increases blood flow. Sometimes liver cleansing works well too. Since hormones are converted in the liver. Have you read the book, The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis ? Although you are already going to an acupuncturist there is a place in Manhattan, that is known nationwide, for strictly, acupuncture/herbs =fertility. If you need the name, let me know.

I asked my acupunturist on details of the herbal medicine. there's a bit of a language barrier but all i could understand that it's to restore female hormonal balance. and the tea i have to drink is his own concoction. do you happen to know what herbal medicine you're taking?

Re: In Vitro Fertilization / Egg Donor Program anyone?
Oh I am not taking any, maybe my post wasn't clear. I meant acupuncture has helped many ladies with high FSH. If you read The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis, she clearly goes into all this. This is her website. http://www.easternharmonyclinic.com. She is located in Texas, however, she recommends going to The Berkley Center for Reproductive Wellness. This is their site. http://www.acupuncturecenter.com/. Acupunture is great, but just like regular doctors you have to go to one who you trust and has high success rates and specializes in what you need them for.
