Incident at orlys treehouse open play
What's the deal with that place? I felt like there were so many unsupervised children there. One boy jumped on my son three times. He was younger and smaller so I told my son to stand up and tell him not to do that again. My son did but it kept happening. Then the boy went for my daughter who is only 14 months and I stepped in and told him not to touch her. I held her until he left. My children were not the only ones being hurt by this particular child.
I kept thinking, where is this kids parents? So what do you do in situations like this? FInd his mother? speak to an employee? leave? Ignore? Just wondering how others would deal with this.

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
Unfortunately I've heard that a lot about Orly's (unsupervised children). I've never been so I can't comment, but next time I would bring it to the attention of one of the employees.

I used to take Ava there for open play, but stopped.
The children that are left there by there parents are NOT properly supervised.
I would never leave my child there- basically all they do is keep them confined in that area..

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
Having a 7 year old, I have been through this at alot of places over the years and unforunatly you are going to find it everywhere. I usually use it as a lesson on, "How Not To Behave" and how to be tolerant. I have on occasion, stepped in and said something to a child(nicely) but you can't change other people and make them parent any differently.

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
I do a class with DS at Orly's and I'm a member, so we do open play every week after his class. I never, never leave him there unsupervised.
There are wayyyyy too many children in there considering the number of employees actually supervising. Plus the employees are really just bored college students who are hardly even watching. They sit around doing nothing until they hear a kid cry, and then go see what's up.
There's a "treehouse" in the middle of the playground with a slide. You go up a large set of steps (like 10) to go to the top of the treehouse. Little babies just learning to walk are trying to get up those stairs and frequently nobody is spotting them!!! One time I saw a little boy maybe 14-15 months old hit his head HARD falling down those stairs... I was too far away to try to stop him, and there was not an employee in sight. Then when the kid's mom came to get him, the employee blatantly lied and said he just "turned around for a second" and the kid fell. I think I actually posted about this story.
Anyway, if you want free babysitting, ask grandma, that's the moral of the story

I was there once and experienced many unsupervised children. We haven't been back there since then.

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
yep - went there once. wanted to punch one of the mom's because her son was a monster...jumping on other kids on purpose, and pinning them down, punching and kicking them. all the while, she stood a few feet away, and did/said NOTHING.

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
I take my son to an indoor playground at least once a week, and I let him run around on his own a lot, but I always take responsability for supervising him and knowing where he is. Most of the time I am in the cafe drinking coffee with my girlfriends, but one of us goes and checks on the kids every few minutes.
It is my responsability to make sure my child is safe.

Just wanted to give a different POV: I have been there quite a few times and had different experiences. Every time I go to open play with DD (I stay with her) the employees are playing around and interacting with the children. My daughter loves adults and wouldn't have it any other way!
I do completely agree about there being way too many kids allowed in there at certain times. Perhaps they need a policy like preschools - a certain ratio of employees to children. I am not allowed to leave her because I'm not a member, but even if I was, I wouldn't because they don't have a policy like that in place.
Personally, now that I've been to Once Upon a Treetop, I like it much better.

I went once and am in no rush to go back.. There was no supervision at all by the employees. One kid kept jumping on another kid and hurting him, but the employee never saw it.... It was horrible

Re: Incident at orlys treehouse open play
Well that explains it. I did not realize that the members were allowed to leave their children there unsupervised. Hmmm I do not think we will be returning.
