infant carriers

how old were your dc when you stopped carrying them in and out of the car in their infant carriers?

today, i had to go to the doctor and between them and my heavy double skip hop and just not feeling well, i thought i was going to die. they are so heavy and it's getting harder and harder to go anywhere with them. it doesn't help matters that i live in queens and don't have a driveway to park in.

if you stopped using them to carry the babies, but still used them in the car, what did you do? i was thinking i could put one in the baby bjorn and carry one and then put them in the seats once in the car. there must be some simpler solutions out there!!! ahhh!!!

tia!!!

I kept them in the carriers until we moved to the bigger car seats - at about 9 months. when I went to the doctors or in and out of daycare, I would ALWAYs put the carriers in the snap and go. I stopped trying to double carry them early on - my back really thanked me!

Re: infant carriers

I stopped using them when they became too inconvenient and heavy to carry - at about 5 months. I never used them in the car after that either, I just moved them on to the convertible carseats.

Re: infant carriers

I was bad I used them till they were almost a year....I found it easier to place them in the shopping cart rather push a cart and a stroller, but I wish i did it sooner, becasue they LOVE the carseat and facing forward

Re: infant carriers

ok, so the 2nd part of my question:

if you are using the convertible carseats, how do you get them both out to the car safely and manage putting them in with only 2 hands?

Re: infant carriers

I stopped carrying the carriers around 9 months, but used them until this week (12 months), when we switched to the convertible car seat.

I have a minivan with the electric doors so after I put one in, I close and lock it as I run in to get my other DD. Sometimes when I return home I take one out, sit her down in front of the other I am taking out and carry them both in. They are lightweights so I still can carry them at the same time. I

I just took one out, loaded him into stroller, wheeled stroller to other side, took out baby 2 and put him in. When I get home, I have to take one out, run into the house and run back out to get the other. I can't carry them together and unlock the door and get in the house. It's too awkward.

Re: infant carriers

thank you ladies.

the main problem i have is that i live in queens. i can't always get a parking spot in front of my apt. there is no way i can hold both and get into the apt. and i would never be able to put one in and run and get the other. that's why i think i'm going to have to do something with the baby bjorn. so i have a free hand.

any other suggestions for apt living???

Do you have a lightweight stroller that you can put them in to get them to and from your apt?

i have the snap-n-go (but you know that already Chat Icon ) and i have a side-by-side maclaren that i haven't even opened from the box yet. i may have to try that, i have a few steps in and out of the apt, so that's going to stink, but i'll have to make it work!!!
