Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
DD is now 11 days old and up until yesterday was doing great. Now she has horrible gas pains that wake her out of a deep sleep. She will also twist around while breastfeeding which can get pretty painful.
She is still sleeping, eating, peeing and pooping fine so I know my doc with tell me to relax. But I hate to see her in pain.
I tried the drops already. Is there anything else I can do?

Re: Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
How much of the drops are you giving her? It says on the bottle to give 0.3ml (I believe -- up to the first line). I had to give my DD 0.6ml -- up to the second line. But I don't think I did that until she was a month old. Prior to that, I would lie her over my knee and just rub her back. I would sometimes give her an ounce of warm water; I sometimes gently rubbed her belly; the lactation consultant said to sit her in my lap with her chin kind of supported between my thumb and forefinger while burping -- she also said to use my forefinger and middle finger kind of straddling her spine and just kind of press gently into her back going upward in 6 or 7 different places -- I believe it is supposed to act like pressure points; also you have to use the drops with every feeding for them to really help; finally when DD was a month old, we started giving Gripe Water which really helped her.
I know your DD is much younger than a month old and it seems like she will never get there to be old enough for some of the remedies I mentioned, but you can try some of the other ones in the meantime. Most of all, the ped said to try to get her to eat slower (maybe not let her get so hungry or too upset before feeding her) and this will help to cut down on the gulping, which will reduce the intake of air. If all else fails, maybe you can try a different bottle? I tried 3 or 4 until I found one that worked (Dr. Brown's).

and belly sleeping (even though it's a SIDS concern) helped a bit as well...
This definately helped us as well, but we didn't do it until she could hold her head up by herself to turn it -- around 6 weeks. Also, I almost forgot -- sometimes if you've been patting for a while (like 10mins) and you haven't gotten a burp, standing up with her sometimes forces it up. I don't really know why, but when DH was trying to burp her and couldn't, as he was handing her to me to have a try at it, the burp would often come out. Or try just gently lying her down and then sitting her up. The lactation consultant said not to try burping for more than 10 mins. If it hasn't come out by then, it's not going to.

Re: Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
also, try holding her on your arm with her belly facing the floor. the pressure should help with the pain.
DS never had VERY serious gas, but I know that cycling his legs helped a lot.

Re: Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
my DD is a huge gas bubble. We've had problems since the first week of her life...I found that the drops right before each bottle helped alittle. I also did what the PP's are recommending - laying her on my knee and patting her back and bicycling her legs worked best for my DD. Everyone I spoke to has a different opinion on burping. My ped doesn't believe it in - he says the more you pat/shake DC the gas builds up. Not burping DD didn't work, but I reduced how much I burped her. I burp her half way through the bottle and at the end. I burp her for 30 seconds - 1 minute - no burp I stop. It really made a difference. I think I was burping her too much and making her worse.
However at our 5 week doctor appt we explained to our ped that she was really upset right after her bottles and he switched her to Nutramigen. It's worked wonders, esp now that she's been on it 2 weeks I totally see a difference.
Just give each suggestion a try and see what works for your DD. Hope your DD feels better soon

Re: Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
Is she on formula because my daughter is 6 weeks old and we had alot of gas problems with her and we use the drops they help but not totally but she also had problem with her poopies as well. so now she is on gasease formula and she is like a new baby no more crying and sleeping through the night. If she is not on formula then Id say just the drops and pushing her knees to her chest and rubbing her tummy and back and when you can give her a bath a warm one will help. goodluck

Re: Infant Gas?? Any solutions???
thanks everyone- she is a breastfeed baby so all the gas really bothers me. I thought she would have less of it.
I tried a lot of your solutions and she is now sleeping on grandma's chest. The bicyling the legs really helps. Thanks so much.
I also have a call into the ped just in case.

Hold her lengthwise along your arm with the palm of your hand supporting her head and her tummy on your arm, the pressure against her tummy will make her feel better.
I also let Liam sleep on his tummy on my bed when he napped during the day but ONLY when I was sitting right there and could monitor him! I did it while watching my soaps during the afternoons
