Infant Percentiles for Weight
DD is 12 weeks and only 11lbs. She is in the 10th percentile for her weight. The ped doesn't seem concerned since she is gaining regularly but I can't help but worry.
We switched her at about 3-4weeks from BFing to formula and she has been gaining ever since. She was very close to being diagnosed "failure to thrive".
Now she is gaining but she definitely has some catching up to do. Should I be worried?
She still only eats 4-5oz every 3 hours. She usually has 5-6 bottles a day which is 20-24oz minimum. She is on Similac Advance Early Shield with no issues whatsoever.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
I would not worry at all. My DD (at 10 weeks) was 11.3 and considered in the 70th % for weight. I was BF for the first 6 weeks and she wasn't gaining that quickly. It took her a few weeks on formula and she has been gaining quickly ever since!!! You will see an increase in no time at all!!!

DS drinks about the same amount. He has 5 oz bottles every 3-4 hours.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
if you do a search back to my posts regarding weights and feeding etc you can find out A LOT about what I went/am going through with Alexa
Alexa is 7.5 mos and weighs 14 lbs
She is EBF but was bottle fed the first 8 weeks because she didn't latch until 7 W 5 D
When she was bottle fed she NEVER took more than 20 ozs a day
She is in the 5th percentile for weight.
I've decided that she has a fast metabolism adn that is why she is so small. The amount of solids she eats a day now is astronomical
PLEASE PLEASE don't let a Dr. tell you your baby is "failure to thrive" just because of low weight gain. That is a B U L L S H I T diagnosis that for some reason they all like to throw around for low weight gain kids.
A baby will failure to thrive puts on no weight/loses weight. They have poor color, don't make eye contact, do not want physical contact. THeir eyes are sunken in and not bright and shinny and they are SEVERELY delayed with developmental miles stones. THAT is failure to thrive.
Please feel free to FM me with ques

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
I wouldn't be concerned. Doctors keep track of the percentiles to make sure the baby stays within a similar range as the baby develops. If DC is consistently around the 10th percentile, I wouldn't worry.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
ds always just stayed consistent with the percentiles... 100% since he was 1 month... i always felt that it was more consistency then what the percet is.. and that they follow the curve

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
My DD was eating nearly the same amount at that age and she was in the 95th percentile for weight at the time. I wouldn't worry as long as you continue to see progress.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
As long as your DC is gaining steadily, I wouldn't worry. DS has always been in the 10-20 percentile for weight. My ped said as long as it is a steady gain, all is well. DS will be a year in less than 2 weeks and he weighs 18.5 lbs.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
my DD is small too....15lbs at 6 months...25th percentile....doesn't bother me at all...i figure she is "petite" and that's all. she is consistenly growing/gaining and is an extremely happy child. i wouldn't worry at all.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
Abby is 13 months old and has ALWAYS been in the 10th percentile for weight. The doc said she is tall and skinny with a length percentile of 50% with each well visit. She does not like to eat and she is fed often. I cannot make her eat any more than she is willing to.
Look at it this way. If one kid is in the 95th percentile, then another has to be in the 10th. Both are normal as long as they are consistent and the kids don't LOSE weight.

Re: Infant Percentiles for Weight
My DS has been in the 10th percentile all along, at his 9 month appt he was 16.5 lbs. He was supplemented with formula at first because of supply issues, but has been mostly EBF. Our ped said he is absolutley fine. He is gaining/growing consistently. I doubt the formula vs. BM has anything to do with it.
My SS was labeled failure to thrive but he was gaining NO weight and at times lost weight. At 13 he still has developmental issues and is 20 lbs below the charts for is age. There is a really a big difference between a 10th percentile kid and a child who has a failure to thrive.
