Infant who doesnt open his mouth for the spoon
What am I doing wrong?
I dont know if I am trying to feed him when he is too tired or not hungry enough. I dont know if he doesnt like the fruit/veggie I am giving him. Or maybe he just isnt ready to eat. I try to feed him before I know he wants a bottle and even if he doesnt seem to want to eat, if I give him a bottle he sucks it down.
I started at 4 mo. and he didnt seem interested. Than he slowly came around and was doing good. Now he doesnt seem interested again.
He doesnt open his mouth for the spoon. If I make him laugh and he opens his mouth I will slip the spoon in and he doesnt spit it back at me. Sometimes it seems like he doesnt know enough to open his mouth for the spoon, it's like he tries to just suck on the spoon. does that mean he's not ready?
I am confused.

Re: Infant who doesnt open his mouth for the spoon
He's probably not really ready for solids just yet. I would leave it alone for a few days then try again and if he still seems disinterested I would stop and try again in a few days. Not every baby is ready for food at 4 months.
I started at 4 months old but my DD was obsessed with whatever we were eating, she never pushed anything out with her tongue when we fed her, and she opened her mouth for every bite. She was just ready.
Your DC just might need some more time. It's not really important they eat solids anyway at this point. Their formula is where they get all their nutrients. Solids are just for practice, they are more for fun than anything. I wouldn't sweat it. Just try again in a few days/weeks.

He's 5 1/2 months. We have been trying solids off and on for a month already. That is why I am starting to get worried.

My son is 6 1/2 months. He doesn't open his mouth for the spoon either. I guess we just need to keep practicing and eventually they will get it!

I still wouldn't worry. It's really not a big deal if he's not eating solids even at 5 1/2 months. Most people don't even start until 6 months and even then it may take a long while before their kids are interested. Some babies are just content with the bottle and that's totally fine as long as he is eating enough. Really, I wouldn't worry at all. What you're experiencing is pretty common.

Re: Infant who doesnt open his mouth for the spoon
Chloe wont open her mouth, If I get some in, she will eat it, but its like her mouth is pried shut. Meanwhile Sydney LUNGES mouth open for the spoon.
Mine are younger ( 5 months Tuesday) and so I just assume Chloes not ready. I try each time, but if she doesnt take it after a bit, I stop.

We're having the same issue, except we started when DS was 5 months and he's now nearly 7 months. He just seems to have totally lost interest... I don't know what to do either, except I keep telling myself that solids are really "just practice" until they're about a year old anyway. Just keep trying, try not to show your frustration and don't force him. We're also going to try to sit down for meals and eat with DS - he's in bed by the time we eat dinner, but definitely for breakfast and lunch on the weekends - so that he can see us eat.
