Inflammatory bowel disease in dogs???
We just got back from our new vet and my dog was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. She has had chronic diarrhea with mucus for the past 5 years and we finally decided to see a new vet for a second opinion because our old vet wasn't addressing the issue at all. I was wondering if anyone has a dog with this condition and if there is a diet that worked for your dog. Our vet told us that basically we just have to find a diet by process of elimination and to try foods with different proteins such as fish, rabbit and venison and eliminate all treats and other foods until we find a diet that works for us. We are also starting on probiotics per the vet's recomendation.
Not sure if it makes any difference but she is a 5 year old maltese poodle mix.

Re: Inflammatory bowel disease in dogs???
our dog was just diagnose with colitis -which is pretty much the same thing
We are struggling for some reason he was doing good on one but then it started up again for no aparant reason.
Natural Balance is a good food - look for the ones that say LID (limited ingredient) - they have fish, venison, duck and they also have treats that match the ingredients in the food

Re: Inflammatory bowel disease in dogs???
Just wanted to say thank you so so much! We ran out yesterday morning and got the brand you recommended. She wasn't too happy about the change, but we are on day 2 of it now, and I know it's a little early to tell, but she seems a little better already! Thanks again! Hope your dog feels better soon!

Re: Inflammatory bowel disease in dogs???
ollie has stomach issues. She had diarrhea on all of the store bought foods. We use prescription food from our vet, it's duck and potato and the brand is royal canine. It seems to have helped her, the diarrhea is much less frequent
