Ingrown toenails...ouch
I seem to keep getting ingrowns on the outside of both big toes. Where I go for pedis, the girl I like notices and clips away at it. It feels better, then a week later, it comes back. I wonder what is causing this? I think I'm going to go to the podiatrist so she can see the root cause. Or at least cut the nail properly. Ouch!!!!

This was happening to my girlfriend. She went to the podiatrist and they had to remove both nails from her big toe. You wouldn't believe how long the nail grew into her toe. She had problems walking because the nail was grown in so far.
Definitely go to the doctor.

As long as they cut mine each pedi, it's OK....but I have the same problem!
The root cause? Likely those fashionable shoes we all wear

OMG...well, I can walk fine. I think it's either my shoes or yoga...rolling over the toes. Not sure. The fact that I have it in BOTH toe nails leads me to believe it's the way I had them cut...it probably only took one bad pedicure. Probably my shoes and the pedis? Who knows. Well, I'm calling the doctor. Thanks, guys!

Re: Ingrown toenails...ouch
A lot of people, including myself, get them after a pedicure. They should not cut the sides or dig in like they do.
Make sure you cut your big toenail STRAIGHT across. Let it grow in a little bit. It should be as long as your toe. See how it grows in. If it feels okay keep it there, if it is really growing in then you need to go to the doctor. But don't cut the sides because it will keep happening.
I hate it because I like my toenails short short. But keeping it a little longer and straight is all that helps me.

Re: Ingrown toenails...ouch
My advise. Don't slack! I was a new mom over the summer and ignored my toe pain. It was getting infected, getting better, getting infected again. Fast forward 2 months later, I wore for the 1st time in a long time a pair of tight closed toe shoes. I had to see a podiatrist in emergency.
I have had to see him for the past 2 months almost every week. He removed my toe nail partially 3 times. I had such a bad infection that I had to take 3 different antibiotics over the course of 1.5 months. I had a staph infection.... very hard to get rid of!
So.... don't wait!

How do you know if it's getting infected?
I have one now, so bad I wake up in the morning in pain, even after not walking on it for 8 hours.
I usually deal with the extreme pain and shove a piece of floss in between the toenail and my skin so it's not digging in, that seems to ease the pain after the initial shock of doing that wears off.

OK...wow...sorry for all your discomfort! I am going Saturday. I don't think it has turned into an infection at this point but we'll see. From now on I will tell them straight across!

Re: Ingrown toenails...ouch
For me it took one bad pedicure to cause one. I keep cutting it back myself & then it got infected. I couldn't wait for my podiatrist appointment so I did it myself.
My podiatrist was horrified that I did it & then cut it properly. I haven't had one since.

Total TMI but I had "puss" and a bit of blood. Then it looked better. At first, I thought I had banged it.

Re: Ingrown toenails...ouch
Go to the podiatrist and have them fix it, cut it out properly.
When I get a pedicure, I cut them myself before I go and have them file them only, not cut! They are not drs and if I get an ingrown at least I know its my fault and not something they did!
