My mom and my MIL are really similar. They only real diffence is one is Italian and one is Guyanese. Oh and the MIL doesn't call me every 15 mins.

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
My MIL lives in MA and my mom and stepmother live here. They all get along. There is no competition at all. They all love my children. My children both love them.
I do know that some inlaws have real competitive relationships but thankfully that is not the case here.

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
they get along well - they see each other only once or twice a year, though.
my mother does have some issues with MIL - she can be very overwhelming. but all in all they like each other.

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
They get along fine, although my mom lives OOT and my MIL is here (DH and I only have moms now). When they see each other, they chat and get along fine, but they don't chat besides for that.

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
They get along well. My parents were hoping to have a little more of a relationship with them then they do, but my in laws have a big family and are always doing things with them. They will occasionally invite my parents. My parnets try to ivite them whenever they host a holiday.

My ILs and parents aren't really ever together but when they are they get along great! Happy, joking, respectful.

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
Although there is a language barrier, they get along well- I don't know if they would be friends without DH and I in the mix but they are close enough where they have gone out without us once in awhile and we share many of the holidays...

Re: inlaws/parents relationship question
They get along very well, inviting each other to all the holidays, etc. In fact, we all went out to eat on Saturday night for DH's birthday! Sometimes, my mom and MIL do get a little competitive when it comes to gifts for the kids and stuff but we try to combat that by asking them to go in on things. Last year, for DS's 2nd Birthday, they went in together on a train table and trains for DS. Stuff like that. No one wins when they are too competitive. DH and I have also stopped telling the other parents some things to prevent the competitive stuff. For example, we are going away with my parents in December. They just offered to buy our plane tickets for us ( ), there is no reason to let my ILs know or otherwise they will try to buy tickets for us to something else. It isn't deliberate, they just want us to be happy.
