Ins co vent: they really are backwards
Mine covers all but $20 of a pregnancy and birth which is fantastic! But they will not pay for an IUD? They will cover the visits but not the device which is 1200! So I guess the moral here is i just have to keep popping out kids, huh? And I'm not paying monthly for BC either b/c out of principle it just seems wrong or at least backwards.

I am not sure what the standard is for insurance companies, but I am guessing b/c it is not only the cost but it is also optional. They probably figure you could just as easily use condoms.

of course there's lots of other alternatives it just kills me that all of them are still things that we are expected to pay for (condoms included) and I don't think they are paying attn to the cost benefit ratio of the way they handle things b/c they really are giving you an incentive to have children which has got to cost them at least the $1200 that the IUD does if not more b/c they covered my hospital stay, my anesthesiologist bill, OBGYN, etc.

When open season comes again...you can probably switch insurances that cover the cost. It isn't that unusual that they won't cover it.

Re: Ins co vent: they really are backwards
I had my OB's office fight the insurance company and we won. They covered me for Paraguard when they previously wouldn't. I ended up only paying a $20 co-pay for an office visit as opposed to $500 completely OOP for the device/insertion. $1200 is a lot! Are you doing Mirena?
