Insights/suggestions about my doc appointment tonight would be appreciated.

Now this doc is not an RE. Both my regular doc and another in the practice have a special interest in infertility and have worked at a clinic, but they are not REs. But, everything that I was told and discussed so far sounded right based on what I read here and other places, so I've stuck it out there. After tonights confusing conversation, both in my head and out of the doctors mouth, it sounds like I should be seeing someone else. Your thought/insights/comments on what happened would be greatly appreciated, as well as an RE and IVF doc recomendation in Suffolk.

OK, so first I go in for the sono. The tech says, wow, she hasn't seen ovaries like this. Now, I'm at day 31--I had my day 3 sono for clomid and my ovaries showed absolutely nothing. So, 28 days later, my ovaries are busting with follicles and cysts. The clomid (only 1 pill a day of 50mg) kicked them into overdrive. It explains all the stomach cramping and pain I've had because some have ruptured. Now, the tech says she sees I released and egg from both ovaries. But OPKs aren't working for me and I have temp taking anxiety, so I have no clue when I actually O'd--or even if they came out the same time or days apart.

So, I make my way into the doc's office and he has me take a PG test--negative. I could have told him that since I think, as my best guess, I ovulated only 5 days ago. He says it probably doesn't matter, the cycle was way too long to, even if I did ovulate and the percentage chance of getting pregnant with a normal pregnancy for such late ovulating is very small--if I did even ovulate. Then, for 10 min we went back and forth between me saying, "The tech said I did ovulate--twice!" to him saying, "We don't even know if you ovulated." It drove me crazy and made me very confused. I want to believe the tech knew more about what she was seeing than the doc being as she looks at many of these a day, but I don't know who to believe.

Finally it came down to him saying, this was not a normal response for a small first dose cycle of clomid and it worries him. He doesn't want me to take clomid anymore because it's overstimulating my ovaries, and not in any good way. So I have to wait out the stomach cramping of all of these things to dissipate, and he suggested I'm going to have to see and IVF specialist and take injectibles because they are more tailored to what my body specifically needs.

So I guess I have to wait to clear up and find another doc. Anyone else have this reaction or go injectables so soon???

HMMMM....I think its a little odd to be honest. I cant imagine injectables giving you LESS follicles. Clomid did nothing for me, which is why I was put on injectables. Sounds also like you were voicing your confusion and still not getting any answers, that would bother me.

Also on Clomid, please telle me that they had you in there during in those 28 days for sonos? You should have been having sonos at least every few days to check your follicle progress, thats a MUST on clomid!

Im concerned, and I would have to say I might consider finding an RE if in your shoes.

I dnt know of too many RES in Suffolk. Where exactly are you located? I am in lindenhurst and drive to Manhassest to the NSUH Center for Human Reproduction. A long haul for me, but I LOVE them there.

Good luck with your decision! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

No, they only had me in on day 3 and day 31 for sonos. I'm bothered by more and more things the more I think about it.

I've read a lot of people post they go to NSUH. I was hoping to find some around West Islip-Commack, but if I have to make the drive to a better doc, so be it. Is it hard to get an appointment there? I was hoping to make one within the next week or two to get there at the beginning of my next cycle.

Unfotunately, I feel really pressured about this now because my SIL just got engaged and I'm in the BP and I'll have to take off a few months coming up so that I won't miss the shower and wedding by being a whale or having a newborn--if I get that lucky. Ugh, I shouldn't let that rule my thinking, but it does.

Hmm, every RE I have been to (3) has done the ultrasounds themselves -- I guess just for this reason, to prevent any ambiguity at all.

I think you are right to go directly to an RE. It sounds like you may have hyperstimulated but I don't really know (since I am the opposite Chat Icon ).

I have heard good things about LI-IVF from other people and they are located in Port Jeff, Melville and Lake Success. I would not recommend certain places, and if you want to know which FM me.

Good luck!! Oh I wish Redstar were still around, she knows so much more about this stuff...

ETA -- ALmost any RE will have a bit of a wait for an appointment. And even after you go, it takes some time to actually begin the cycle. I would say if you saw someone really soon you still wouldn't cycle until September.

When you gut tells you something is off, it almost always is. Find a real specialist. Hugs.

please tell me you werent on clomid between day 3 and 31. You are supposed to take it only for 5 days and should have at least had a sono on day 10. I do not understand AT ALL why they would do a sono on day 31. BY then you should be PG or day 3 if you had a normal cycle.

Not only would I look for a new RE I would look for a new OBGYN. This sounds like malpractice to me.

I do like NSUH, and one of their REs Dr, Chu sees patients at Huntington hospital , you would go to manhasset only for procedures.

Good luck!

I agree with what everyone has said. Thinking about this had made me so mad. Day 31 is way too late for sono on Clomid. You 99.9% ovulated something for sure, but Clmoid does tend to produce cysts( I had 4 huge ones over my Clomid course of a few months) and you should have monitored for them.

What is the next step for you? The cysts you may have noe should be monitored. Or you should be on a BCP for a few weeks to get rid of them, or prevent new ones.

Nononono...I was only on clomid for days 3-8. But I was told to come back for another if I had not ovulated or gotten my period in a month.

I'm gonna make some calls and try to get in somewhere ASAP--to make sure nothing is wrong because of the hyperstimulation and that it doesn't take forever to go down again.

Even if it seemed like I had had a normal reaction to clomid, I would definitely be switching OBGYNs after my absolutely frustrating conversation with the doctor.

Thanks ladies!
