WAs thinking about signing up to be a shopper and make some extra money. Anyone do it, or know anyone? Pros...cons?

Don’t really know the pros and cons but I’ve def seen more ppl signing up for that type of job, actually more with Whole Foods (Prime Now). Funny that u ask that, a few yrs ago I was thinking in doing Uber (a little money is always welcome lol!) but I never followed up with it.

i don't know about driving for them. i will say that the demand has increased... i use it for my house and to send items to my son's place. AND i tip very well

One time I asked a driver if they made good money and they told me that they do, but you need to build up your good ratings so that you get first pick of jobs.
So in the beginning you might not get many orders, but if you stick with it and get a lot of 5 star ratings you'll have the opportunity to make more and more.

I'm not sure exactly how it works. Some areas have shoppers and then a separate driver, but some areas have it setup where 1 person does both. I'm out east a bit, so it's 1 person that does both around here. I've read a lot of bad things about it, like it seems like good money, but ends up not being good money.
I use the service multiple times a week and I tip very well, but I've had bad shoppers that I've complained about. I always wonder if it effects the shoppers when Instacart refunds me the delivery fee or refunds me for inadequate substitutions (because the shoppers didn't listen when I said no to certain replacements). I don't know if they penalize the shopper monetarily or just fewer stars means they don't get the higher paying shopping trips.
I'm not usually a complainer, but when I pay 14.99 for delivery, and my items aren't right, I have to say something because that means I either have to go get the right items, or I have to place a new order and pay again to get the right items. We eat organic and I put notes in my orders not to replace my produce with conventionally grown produce. I will not feed it to my kids. I've had a lot of shoppers ignore the notes.
I try to be reasonable, but they shouldn't message me about a replacement while they're paying for it. I need more than 15 seconds to approve something. Just the other day, I got 5 texts in a row, 4 asking about substitutions and then 1 saying that they're done shopping and now on their way. The shopper was in the store for about 10-15 minutes for a $250+ order. I get trying to be quick, but I'm not spending that kind of money on items I didn't approve. So, yeah while I think I'm reasonable, lol you might roll your eyes and think it's not worth dealing with ppl like me.

This! Diane if u go for it, def pay close attention to the instructions. I don’t think I ask for much when I say please make sure the eggs are not cracked, or make sure the avocados are green, firm, and still have the stem, or please have the bakery slice the bread? lol! While I won’t complain if the bread is not sliced, I’ll get reimbursed for cracked eggs.

I honestly don’t see how they make any money.
If I order from Costco it’s about 30 minutes away from me...so they spend an hour shopping, at least 30 min driving, and the pay depends what tip they get? I think a lot of people end up getting screwed.

I feel some are better/faster than others. I placed a large order with BJs and I think the guy was shopping over 2 hours plus 20 mins to drive and drop off to me. No way did my tip cover that and I felt bad. The next time I ordered, I feel like I got a pro. That guy was in and out and delivered in an hour. Everything t was packed up in boxes neatly too.
So maybe you learn tricks as you go? I don’t think I tip badly but almost nothing would be worth 2.5 hours of bjs for me.
Keep us posted. I always say to DH if one of us gets laid off, we are at least doing Uber eats or insta art or something to bridge the income loss. I’m curious if that’s a realistic option or not.
