Insurance, For those who have insurance through Healthy NY
I'm not sure what category my family should fall under. My husband is self employed. It's basically him and his truck that goes to work. He does seasonal stuff like landscaping and it's his own little business he has nobody working for him.
We are looking at healthy NY now and we're not sure if we are considered small business or sole proprietors. We would need coverage for applicant, spouse and child.
Anyone familiar with this plan. Feel free to FM.

I had used healthy NY when I was unemployed. I remember you could apply if your job does not offer any health insurance and/or if it had under a certain amount of employees. It was a really great plan though.

Is he incorporated?? I believe that is the difference? If he is-you go with small business...if not you go with sole proprietor. If you question...call the 1-800 number, they are very friendly!! But, I believe you have to send in your tax form...so if you file under sole...you should check sole! Otherwise, small business!

I would apply under "sole proprietor" if he is the owner and only employee.
If he is looking to get medical insurance for more employees, I'd go with small business.

I agree... my DH has insurance through Healthy NY for his employees and it's great.... we have to pay regular price for our insurance though because the business has been paying our insurance for years... Have you been claiming insurance expense for the business?
