Integrated programs
Does anyone know of other schools that offer an integrated program?
Packets were sent to : ACDS cannot guarantee me an integrated spot will open up Variety has no integrated spots BCW we are touring next week but doubt they have integrated available Little Village has no integrated spots
We accepted placement for summer and September in the integrated class at BCCS in Brookville. I LOVE the school and LOVE the program but am second guessing it because of the distance from our house to school. We are in Merrick and the school is in Brookville, 30 min for me to drive with no traffic. Obviously it will be longer for him on the bus.
I cannot believe more schools do not have integrated spots. And my packets were sent out in February. If I don't want him on a bus for maybe an our our each way to BCCS it's almost like I'm forced to put him in a self contained class which I dont think is the right fit for him

I believe HASC has integrated classes, but they are in Woodmere.

Re: Integrated programs
Are you able to drive him or pick him up?
If you love the school, I think it's worth a try. Can you change schools if the bus ride isn't working out?

No you canny just change schools. They have x amount of spots and 100 kids wanting those spots. This is part of the reason I'm in this situation, none of the closer school have integrated openings for him. And we are fairly early in the process.

Mill Neck is by BCCS, it may even be further. I looked into it.

Wait I just checked their website. They have an integrated class on their campus in Mill Neck but then they also have two that meet in other sites, by Oyster Bay although it's still not much closer.

Re: Integrated programs
DS goes to just kids in Lindenhurst. Huge place, I knwo they have spots open.
As far as how "good" they are. IDK. I choose it on location and because everyone I talked to LOVED it. I didnt at first love it ( after EI program there) but now I love the teachers he has had this year and his therapist and he has made un-imaginable progress and so thatis all I care about...progress.
Worth a visit maybe?

Actually the parent advocate from my CPSE meeting sent her son there. Even though we're in Merrick, it seems closer than the other schools since you can take the Southern State all the way there.
I checked their website and it seems their integrated classes are 18 kids. I was looking for something a little smaller. I will have to call them.

The bus would probably take Sunrise, its right off Sunrise ( but close to SS too) ...
If it helps timewise...I live literally down the block from Just Kids and I took Noah to a Speech group in Merrick his first year of EI, not far at all of a drive.
Anyway, yes its 18 for integrated. I was a bit put off by that at first , but so far so good. Noahs class has 16 kids him included. Most days theres 1 , even 2 kids absent. For us, it was OK because I wanted Noah to get used to the larger class size as soon as possible for Kindergarten, as his issues are largely increased with social anxiety and the more kids, the better he will progress.
The class is always organized and I have never seen them flustered. BUT this is the first yr he has been there besides through EI ( much smaller class) so I dont have much to compare it to. The director is really nice. We made 4 visits....one with Noah, one with me , One with DH and one with our EI parent trainer....they were always so accomodating. Again..good luck with your decision.
