It's important, though to not just blame electronics. I honestly believe that DS is several years ahead of his peers, partly due to electronics. A major factor is how we use electronics to teach him. It is never a "babysitter" for him. We are always with him, getting him to interact with the show/video game/computer screen/etc. We have Closed Captioning on the TV, which he reads. He types faster than some adults I know! He still has lots of non-electronics time, and his imagination and creativity are amazing. He has intricate plot lines, subplots, etc.

Everything is a tool, and they can either be helpful, or hurtful. It all depends on how they are used.

Books can be bad for kids, too. I know quite a few kids who think they can read because they've memorized a book or two. The parents don't want to use more books, because DC has their two "favorites" that they "read" every night. In this scenario, those books are actually preventing their DC from truly learning how to read.
