My SILthought that breastfeeding whole protect my niece.

My niece is highly allergic to peanuts and was sick all the time as a baby.

hmm... interesting..
My oldest was EBF and still has atopic dermastitis-aka eczema and didn't start solids til about 7 months. Both my girls have eczema.
I wasn't bf'd and i inherited my dad's allergy to some nuts and my mom ate nothing but milk shakes her whole pg cause she was very very sick her whole pg.
My second, is on Neocate cause she was born with allergies. I wouldn't have even to been able to bf'd her if i wanted too unless i cut almost everything out of my diet.

It's definitely not an absolute indicator, so women shouldn't panic if they don't BF. I wasn't BF, nor my sibs, and we have no allergies. DC were BF for a very short time, and not much at that, and they have absolutely no allergies.

BF is best, but it doesn't guarantee anything.

Interesting article. I don't think the author is saying that only formula fed children will have food allergies (everyone knows breastfed children with food allergies and formula fed children without food allergies)-- just that breastfeeding tends to lessen the occurance of food allergies.

Of course nothing is guaranteed one way of another -- breastfeeding is one of the many nutritional/environmental variables that are part of an infants life. But it does seem that breastfeeding can lessen the occurance of food allergies, so that's great news for people who are concerned about food allergies and are able to/choose to breastfeed.

Interesting. I EBF for 6 months and then continue to BF until 8 months, didn't really introduce solids until almost 6 months, but my DS is allergic to milk and eggs. His milk allergy appeared very early and I had to cut dairy out of my diet while I was BFing.
