Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
I've had strep throat for 4 weeks now and can't shake it. I was on ammoxicilian for 10 days and now I'm on a Z pack.
I had a regular OB appt today and he told me that when you are pregnant your body naturally dials back your immune system. He said a lot of research thinks that this helps your body from rejecting the baby which is 50% foreign object, like when someone has an organ transplant.
He said that a cold that lasts 3-4 days when you are not pregnant can hang on for 3-4 weeks when you are pregnant!
I thought maybe if anyone else has been feeling crummy for a while it would make you feel a little better.

Re: Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
I am so glad you posted this. My Dr. just put me on the Z-pack today after I was on amoxicillin for 10 days for a sinus infection. I was wondering why I can't kick this thing and now I know. Thanks & feel better

Re: Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
So true! I had a cold a few weeks ago that was horrible and lingered for about 2 weeks. I normally only have cold for 4-5 days tops.

Re: Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
here is another preggo/sick fact, if you get sick at the end of your pregnancy, you will most likley not completely "dry out" (your post nasal drip or sore throat) will not get better because your body cannot dofferentiate between the water needed in your amnionic fluid vs. your cold, but within 24 hrs after giving birth you usually "dry out", this happened to me with my last 2 pregnancies.

Re: Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
When I was pregnant with my 2nd child I had some weird painful swelling on my upper thighs.. weird right? Well it got worse and worse until they put me in the hospital for a week!.. turns out I had an infection in some of my lmphnodes ( sp?) I had never heard of anything like this before, I puzzled half the doctors and North shore manhassett.. Because I was pregnant, whatever this was became 10X worse then it should of been...

Thank you sarahsmommy. You made me feel a lot better. I've been sick for two weeks as of today and was getting really worried but what you said makes a lot of sense!
Now if I could just get better

Thanks for the info. I had never heard this before. I got sick the week before Christmas, and started Amoxicillin on the 23rd. Most of my symptoms have gotten better except that it still sound and feels like my sinuses are infected. I have an ob/gyn appt. on Tues. and I guess I will have to get a different antibiotic then since the Amox. isn't really clearing the sinuses.

Re: Interesting fact about pregnancy and being sick
Thanks for the info in this post.
I am 6 weeks 1 day pg and woke up this morning feeling achy, painy and a bit queasy. Last night my throat started to hurt a little bit but today it's not so bad but I just feel like someone ran me over. The highest my fever went to was 99.3 which isn't so bad but boy do I feel icky. Do you guys think this is a cold or is this how you feel when you have m/s & exhaustion in your 1st trimester?
TIA - Kathy
