Interesting toddler sleep dilemma...advise needed.

For a long time Talia was sleeping 10 hours a night and 2 during the day.

All of a sudden she is sleeping a little later in the morning - so she is sleeping about 11 hours a night and still 2 during the day. But the past few days she is really fighting going down for a nap. When she finally falls asleep I only let her sleep an hour and a half - but she is havig a really hard time falling asleep at night. I have been putting her down at 8 but she doesnt fall asleep until 10!!!

Do you think I should cut her nap down to an hour or try to cut it out (Which I think will just lead to a breakdown!!) completely?

Sounds like she is ready to give up one of her naps. My boys are 17 months and we are just about there.

My boys sleep 12 hours at night and use to take a morning nap and afternoon nap. I slowly started noticing that the morning nap was getting later and the afternoon nap they were not going to sleep easilly.

Now each day I play it by ear, but mostly they take a longer nap in the morning and I don't put them back down till bedtime. They have a crazy cranky time between 4-5PM, but then they get a second wind after dinner.

Some days though i will put them down for an afternoon nap, but that usually means they go to bed an hour later.

oops I should have mentioned she only takes one nap a day.

Usually the day looks like this...

Sleep 8pm - 7 am

Nap 1:30-3:30

The past few days it has looked like this

Sleep 10pm - 8am
nap 2:30-4

Hmmm....I would play each day by ear then. If she is incredibly cranky, put her down...otherwise cut out the nap and let her go to sleep earlier.

A lot of it was trial and error for me.

how old is she again? i think that naps kinda dwindles away around 3 years....and if youre lucky, they nap til about 4 years.....so she might be closing in on the age where she wont take a nap, but she will def still need REST time....like, put on a movie, let her relax on the couch, something like that.....

Jen. We live parallel lives. Yet again.

Alex usually goes down at 7:30pm and wakes up at 6:30am.

This whole week she has been fighting me like a little devil about sleepytime, and I haven't been able to get her down before 9pm! Chat Icon

With us, though, I think it's because we weaned her from her paci. That was usually her incentive to go to bed right away.

So, unfortunately, I have no advice - I'm just riding the waaaaaaaaaave Chat Icon
