Interesting WW Phenomenon
I made a smoothie yesterday:
1c FF Milk 1/4c frozen blueberries 1/4c frozen strawberries 1/2 a banana 1 packet truvia
Blended together. It was delicious
I put all the ingredients in to the tracker separately- came out as 2pts (fruit and truvia are 0pts)
I used the recipe builder and came out with 5pts.
Big difference!
Here's what WW has to say in the matter:
------------------------------------------------ It has always been our policy at Weight Watchers to incorporate the nutrients of vegetables (and now fruit) into recipes. Why? A few reasons.
1) Vegetables and fruit add fiber and other nutrients, and without including them it can impact the Points value.
2) Our recipes are often featured in articles and magazines nationally and as a result we need to disclose this info to ensure the appropriate calories and nutrient content are displayed if evaluated by organizations outside of Weight Watchers.
3) Since many non-Weight Watchers recipes include nutritional information these days, we want our calculations to match those you may do for recipes you find in other places. We don’t want to unfairly advantage our own recipes.
4) Once you start combining vegetables and fruits with other foods, you change the experience of eating them. Few people “pig out” on carrots but might on carrot cake. To ignore them in recipes would place our member at risk for abuse potential.
Please read the PointsPlus 15 Essentials, especially item 8
http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=106231&sc=3010
8. Fruit (and vegetables) in recipes still contribute toward the PointsPlus values Just as we've always done with 0 PointsPlus value vegetables, even 0 PointsPlus value fruits contribute toward the total PointsPlus values of a recipe, whether it's a Weight Watchers recipe or one you build yourself in the Recipe Builder. Recipes add up the nutritional info for all their ingredients. If you ate fruit only, save it as a "meal" rather than a "recipe." -------------------------------------------------------
What do you think?
I guess I have to count it as 5pts

When making a meal you have to add everything together to get the right amount of points. Fruits still have carbs which contribute to the total carb value, hence more points.

Honestly? Things like that I would count each component individually - hence making your smoothie 2pp.
It's real recipes that I count together.....i.e. sauces, meals, combined dishes.
Whenever I make smoothies I count each piece separately.

I had this problem the other day. I made kale salad and put it in the recipe builder and it came out twice as many points as the ingredients.

I don't see how that's 5 pp. I would count it as 2 pp. Fresh fruit is 0 points. Even if you eat a bunch at a time, it's 0 pp. The only points I see there is milk.

Re: Interesting WW Phenomenon
I would count it as 2 points. If you ate lunch and had fruit and glass of milk in the same meal it would only count as 2 points. So to me this is kind of the same thing. Also, you are having about a cup total of fruit which is considered one serving. So you are not overindulging which is the reason they give for including fruit and veggie points in recipes.
