Internals & a scheduled c/s

I thought I didn't have to get them because I'm a scheduled C?

I went for my appt yesterday and was surprised when the nurse told me to undress from the waist down. Doc said he needs to know if I'm dilated. Period.

Sucky.

Anyone else still have to have internals even though they are scheduled for a C/S?

Anyone actually find out they WERE dilated while waiting for their C/S date - did anything change? C-section date change, NST ordered?

I'm just asking myself - so what if I DO dilate a fingertip or so - what difference does it even make, ya know?

I'm scheduled for a week from today and was scheduled with my first baby too. No internals at all. Sounds so strange to me- why does it matter??

Re: Internals & a scheduled c/s

I'll give you a scenario to show you why it's important to know. Let's say you start contracting prior to you scheduled C and you just had a big meal. They need to decide if they can wait a few hours(safer for you since you just ate) or do they need to do it right away because you're in labor. They do an exam and your 2cms dilated. Is this progress? Well maybe you were 2cm's in the office since last week or maybe you were closed in the office yesterday. Won't know unless they did the internal, KWIM?
