Interview Q for daycare center?
DH and I have an appt to check out a daycare center tonight. We came up with the following questions, please let me know if I've missed anything? (this is our first time, so please excuse any stupid or obvious questions!)
- Pricing: timing, what's included, will it be prorated if days are missed etc (if DD is sick *heaven forbid* or if we are on vacation) - Infant program schedule/activities - Do they enforce vaccination requirements for ALL children in their care - Safety/emergency procedures - Webcam accessible? (this one is from DH)
I am sure I've missed something

Here are some: * Ratio of staff to infants * Do they fill out a progress report daily letting you naps times/feedings/dirty diapers * Do they administer mediactaion if needed * Do they contact you if your DC has a fever/has diarhea/is sick * Do they wear gloves for diaper changes * Does the facility have high staff turnover? What is the turnover? * Is the facility licensed? Are the caregivers licensed? Through whom? May I see the certificates? * What are the state requirements for licensing of this facility - and also for hiring (and continuing to employ) the caregivers? * What are the credentials (experience and training) of the staff? Do these credentials apply to a) the director b) the room leader c) the co-teachers d) all staff? Do staff members receive ongoing training? What kind of training is it? * Have all staff and caregivers submitted to background and criminal checks? * Does everyone on the staff know first aid and CPR (and if applicable, infant CPR)? * Has any infant/child suffered serious injury (requiring professional medical care) while being cared for by any staff member? * Is the facility required to submit to regular health, fire and safety checks?

Re: Interview Q for daycare center?
Those are good questions!
Here are a few more, hope it helps:
* How often do they change diapers?
* Do they follow each infants' schedule or try to get them on one nap/feeding schedule?
* Do they work on motor skills? Stacking, pincer grasp, sitting, standing, crawling, etc.
* What are their sick policies - what would require an early pick up?
* Would they administer medicine if needed? (Mine does if you fill out a sheet and leave the sheet with medicine with nurse who then goes to child at specified times and gives to them, but some friends' daycares won't do this.
* What is their student/teacher ratio? How do they compensate for a teacher being sick? Do they bring in back up or allow the ratio to be higher that day?
* What do they clean the toys and floors with and how often? (ie. chemicals or green, non toxic products)
* What safety precautions do they take when and if they go for walks?

Good luck!! And I think you said you are going tonight, right? Try to go when the center is open too so you can get a feel of what the infants are doing, what staff is doing, etc. IMO, you don't get a "feel" for it unless you see the place and staff in action and you see the interaction

Re: Interview Q for daycare center?
The above are awesome... Id add these as well:
What is the schools cleaning procedure? DO they have a cleaning crew?
Does each infant have their own crib? Do the infants share cribs?
What is their discipline policy?
What is the schools philosophy?
