INVETRO

A friend of mine has been trying to concieve for over a year now she has trouble ovulating so she went for fertility drugs they didn't help much then she went for fertility shots they helped her ovulate and they did but she didn't get pg. So they did it a few more times with artificial insemination and still nothing now the only thing left to do is invetro but her and her husband doesn't have the $$ for it since its a little over $15,000 and neither one of their insurance companies cover any part of it.

My question is does anyone know anything else she can try or know of anyplace they can go to and try to get help with the invetro expenses

I don't have an answer for you but I would like to know. I just found out today that our new coverage does not cover IUI or IVF.

Re: INVETRO

Soon it will be available to all insurances.

I work for Empire BCBS, and we started covering the Artifical Insemination when NY State passed a Mandated law, all insurance companies must offer it to their members ( except groups like Catholic charities, they can say no)

In NJ they passed the Mandate for InVitro last year, so if any of you are in NJ, your insurance MUST COVER IT.

NY will follow suit soon, the state's being pressured now, but it still could be a year away before they pass that Mandate.

p.s Edited to say we do offer invitro to some large groups(employers) who purchase it for their employees...Of course EMpire doesnt offer it, but some companies like North shore LIJ employees, Verizon, Sears..they all pay extra to have it offered to their employees...

Call your insurance and ask.

I have empire govt, and it covers it.
I have heard of people taking out special loans for it.

Re: INVETRO

Yes, a lot of people take out loans.

There is also a program in NY for grants, but you have to make under a certain amt of $$, VERY few people get them, and only a few clinics do it.

Re: INVETRO

I know someone that had to take out a loan to cover the medical expenses. It's sad that amount of money it costs but Its so worth it. She was actually down to her last try and thank God it took, or she would not have had anymore tries they would have been out of $
