iPad with the Nook app - can you download ebooks from the Suffolk Library system?

I checked online today and the ebooks Suffolk County offers are compatible with Nooks, not iPads. Does the Nook app get around that limitation, does anyone know?

I don't have an iPad, but I don't think it will work. To be able to download books from the library to read on the Nook you have to first download them to Adobe Digital Editions and then move them to the Nook. Since Apple and Adobe are no longer friends I'm not sure that would work.

If you know people who have a Nook they could probably lend you books they've purchased through BN.com on the Nook app.

See if there is a suggestion section on the Live-brary page and let them know you are disappointed that you can't use Apple products for this.

I have heard that Queens library system's ebooks, etc., are compatible with a variety of readers. Suffolk seems to exclude so many.

The problem is that the book format used most of the time by libraries are epub or pdf, both of which are Adobe formats. They can be read on any non-Apple computer or all e-readers except for the Kindle. So until Apple and Adobe start working together again you won't be able to read them on any Apple products.

I saw this today on a Nook chatboard I'm a member of and thought I'd share. I don't know anything more than this, but hopefully it helps!

Just an FYI if you want to read Library books on your iPad the bluefire reader app works great and it's free. AND, you don't even have to use itunes or Adobe Digital Editions Just download the app, download your library book on your computer, I save it to desktop, attach the book in your email and send it to yourself. Then on your iPad, open it with bluefire. But you must have an ADE account and use the same email address and id on the bluefire app.
