That sounds about right. My parents had a lot of old bushes similar to yours removed and that is around what they cost.

Trust me removing them is not as easy as you think. The roots, etc... it is a real PIA. We removed a bunch for them and then they had the rest done by their landscaper.

If your hubby gets a few guys together it won't be so bad and you will save $400.

Um...can you do it yourself?
It's really not that hard actually.

My Dad had bushes like this in front of his house and I hated them. So I got rid of them for him LOL

I used a small electric chainsaw (gas cainsaw was too heavy for me) and I cut the bushes down to the ground.

Then I used a shovel and dug up the roots - really its a big ball of roots right under where the bush was. They came up fairly easy - but it did take some work.

For some of the harder ones I soaked the ground with water to losen up the soil a little.

It took me the weekend to do, but it did it all by myself (DH was working)!

Good luck to you!

ETA: Those bushes aren't that big and I bet they wont be hard to get out. Why dont you give it a shot yourself? If you dont have a chainsaw I think Home Depot rents stuff like that.

we also took a bunch of our own bushes out - but they hadn't been planted for too many years - so it was fairly easy.

We hired a tree removal person to take out the larger ones and some that had been planted for so many years that the roots were very deep.

They took about 10 bushes/trees out altogether and it cost us around $300 - $350.

I think for your job $400 is a little high - have you called some other places?

I would get another price - $400 seems awfully high.

I did all this and then some one saturday while my DH was at work.

In the first picture, I took out ALL the shrubs along the house and the round shrub in the for-ground. I also took out the ivy but thats a longer process.

Re: is $400 too much for bush removal pic included

sounds about right! I had similiar bushes and more had them rip out and plant new plants cost me 3000k!!! but it was so worth it, some of the trees like the japense maple was 600 alone. my area is bigger than yours but not by much. they also did decorative rocks, etc. and what a difference-
you can do it yourself, we did in our backyard- I wasnt about to spend 3k+ ( the area in the backyard is by far much larger) it took us a whole summer to do it though and the plants and trees and shrubs we got from cheap sams, with decorative stones it cost us for the backyard 2900k but would have cost well over 5k if we had someone else do it. Just take your time some of these shrubs are really into the ground and have lots of roots. the cleanup is a b*tch too. just need some good shovels and a wheelbarrow, gloves, protective eye wear and lots of water and your good to go!
