I think a dietician may have a medical background and nutrionist may just have regular college degree???

A dietitian goes through 4 years of college, a mandatory internship of either 6 months to a year and must pass a national exam to be recognized. Registered dietitians (RD) are regulated by the government
Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. Many doctors talk about nutrition like they are experts yet they don't take all the classes and exams. An RD is the person to discuss nutritional issues with.
