IS Abby in heat?

Yes I havent had her spayed..YES I 100% KNOW I should have done it by now and plan to asap now...But well Life happened and she doesnt really go outside , so we put it off too long.

BUT...Now the last few days, she licks herself down there continuously after peeing and it seems swollen. ( been watching her and do not see any problems with her peeing though)

We noticed stuck in her hair down there some blood yesterday and today ( a drop kinda stuck in the hair) .....

She is drinking fine, and seems fine otherwise.

She is about 13 months old.

How long does this last for?

I don't know how long it lasts, but it definitely sounds like she's in heat.

I do know that you'll have to wait 3 months now, before you get her spayed.

Also, does her belly look a little swollen?
That's what our vet said to look out for too.

She's definitely in heat...my friend bred her Rottie and that's exactly what happens. Call your vet and find out what his protocol is as all vets handle it differently.

Didn't you adopt her from a shelter?
If so, how come they never spayed her?

she was too little at the time...10 weeks and only 2 lbs and they offered us a reduced rate to have it done there , but it was in Yonkers and we were not happy with the Vet that they used.....

Then here our vet is good, but we got Preggo etc and put if off since we dont really let her go outside unleashed etc....And a year creeped up on us...and here we are...

We will get it done now though.

Re: IS Abby in heat?

Awww- it sounds like she is in heat. After Molly had the spaying-gone-wrong and she then went into heat her vagina was hugely swollen, that was how I knew something was up. She then started humping like a maniac (I've been told that is a dominance thing but it happened at literally the same exact time)

I would call your vet and see what they say. I just hope that Abby doesn't get what Molly does now. When we bring her out for walks and she picks up other dogs scents she starts drooling like crazy. I literally wipe her down like a baby every night after walks. She also gets humped by every dog who passes her by.

Again, I don't know if these things happen because she did go into heat or if it just happens -- but I HOPE it doesn't happen to Abby bc it's a huge PIA!!!
