DS sat up somewhere between 6 and 7 months.. it was really sudden, seemed like one day he could barely hold himself in the "tripod" position with his hands propping him up, and like two days later he was sitting up straight on his own, and maybe a week or so after that he was pulling up to standing.

DD doesn't sit on her own. I sit her up and let go when I feel like she is in a good position to balance herself. She stays sitting for a less than 30 seconds and starts to fall over. She also thinks its funny when she falls backward and I catch her. I think its funny too but don't want to make a game out of it that she will play without me (nobody to catch her). I help her practice a few times a day. I don't think we should worry at this point.

I forgot to say in my previous post-- the ped told me that sitting up ought to happen by 7 to 8 months, so 6 months is nothing to worry about!

DS was wobbly at 7months and now at 8 months he sits so well and when he wants he can go from crawling to sitting on his own. I wouldnt worry to much about it. DS didnt even roll over until 6 months. You just have to practive a little each day with him

Lauren was just 7 months old and she can sit on her own. We practice with her every day. THey just need to develop their stomach muscles. And she won't sit for long before she topples to the side and laughs hysterically.

Ellie is getting better but she doesn't sit by herself yet. I can sit her up and if she's got something to focus her attn on she'll stay up for a little bit, but she goes forward or to the side. I use the boppy. It gives her just the right amount of cushion to keep her from toppling over but still allows her to sit on her own. She's not that interested in it yet either. My magazine says 7 mos so I'm not worried.

Mikey sits up pretty well now. But I practiced with him almost every day. Practice does make perfect!

Mine is almost 7m and cannot sit well on her own either. She can do the 'tripod' on her own for awhile though. And she doesn't roll either. But, don't worry!

Re: Is anybody's 6 month old not sitting up on their own yet?

Katie is 7 mos and she sits on her own but still falls over sometimes. Sometimes I put her down with the boppy around her but I also sit with her on the floor as much as I can to try to get her sitting better. A month ago she was tripod sitting and now can sit up and reach out for things. She rolls from belly to back and back to belly. She's trying to crawl but she cant just yet and she cant go from laying to sitting on her own. Her ped said she is doing just great and not to worry.

My son is the same age as you know and just in the past few days he got fairly sturdy. Before that he was tripoding and/or doing headers into the floor. At this age, he's not delayed at all if he's not sitting unaided.

i wouldn't worry just yet. give him another month or so. even after brendan started sitting up, it took him a while before he was stable enough not to lose his balance and topple over.
