Re: Is anyone afraid to..

I am horrible, just HORRIBLE at public speaking.. I can make myself sick over it too... I made a speech to honor my parents at our wedding and aside from crying through most of it , I was sooo nervous about doing this the entire wedding !!

I'm sure you'll be OK , Josie... just remember it will be over soon.. good luck!

Take lots of deep breaths, try not to read too fast, and a couple of shots beforehand should help, too. Good luck! Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone afraid to..

Nope... I actually like it, and I was able to give a speech at my college graduation - it was awesome!

I have no advice, but I say just pretend that there is no one else there if you can....like you are practicing at home.

I know. I get so emotional too..I think it's just a reading from the bible..so I don't think I will start crying..I hope!!!

I wanted to practice it a billion times starting this week..I even spoke to my cousin last night and was going to ask her for the reading..but, I didn't..I could just see her thinking, "what freak needs to practice a bible reading one week in advance..?Chat Icon I also didn't want her to stress that I wasn't going to do a good job....you know how brides get! ughhhhh..so I guess I will have to wait until Friday (the rehersal dinner) to find out what I'm reading..

I use to be. Not now since I interview people all the time for new positions.
I also took a public speaking course in college which helped a lot!

I hate doing it! The thought of it makes me sick to my stomach. Chat Icon In High School, we alwasy had to memorize Sheakspear and recite it in front of the class. I always opted for the "F" for that project.

Re: Is anyone afraid to..

My job is to speak to large groups. I'm one of those freaky people that actually likes it!!

This may sound weird, but I find that if I'm feeling nervous I "Fake" confidence. I act like it's not bothering me at all and that I'll be the best speaker ever. A lot of times that brings on the real confidence.
